Yes, but they are an Apple manufacture that assembles the majority of the iPhones and iPads that Apple sells.

But you realise how that works right? Foxconn employees are Foxconn employees, not Apple employees. It's Foxconns responsibility that the working environment is okay, not Apples. Apple is only a customer in that game, nothing else.

Not true at all. Apple is the richest company in the world, they have a legal obligation to make sure they are doing business with suppliers and manufactures that treat their employee's humanly. They are just as guilty as Foxconn for the deaths.

Especially when one of those suicides occurred after the person was questioned about a iPhone prototype that went missing in transit.

That's just not how it works. If that was the case there would be no trading with China at all. On another note didn't they find that the suicide rates at Foxconn were considerably lower than the country's average?

So, everything I posted was accurate, yet you made a post acting as if it wasn't. Do the right thing and admit you were wrong and edit your post to reflect as such.

You might be nearly double his age but you dont have to act like his dad, hes been on this forum allot longer than you and has posted allot more (wether he's a post whore or legitimately trying to help others regardless).

you cant ask someone to change their previous posts admitting they we're wrong, that's not how the web works, we're not a japanese company who calls a press conference and then bows for an eternity.

my 2 cents is that samsung or not, if korea is anything like china or taiwan, then being inside a factory is probably no worse for you then being outside.

we first world countries dont like to see or read this sort of thing but will we pay 2x the price for the device's? no, because who cares about some 15 year old kid working for 50c a day on the other side of the world or about the health of the cow so long as your phone works while you're eating your mcdonalds, right?

wow i sound like a hippie now, time for some foamy the squirrel.

Lots of people die from cancer in every line of work. How is this any different. Go into any office or factory and you will probably find at least one person their that has cancer. Lots of people get cancer it is quite common you know.

No, that is not "just how it works". If that was the case, then Apple wouldn't have been tripping over themselves to get things fixed, or force the employees to do such pathetic things as sign contracts promising to not commit suicide. You also can't compare a national average for suicides to a micro group of healthy, working age, adults. The suicide rate for that group should be zero, but they are treated so poorly that they literally jumped out the windows or off the roof instead of facing the horrible working conditions.

56 people at the same factory all dieing of cancer is not normal. 1 person getting cancer is natural, almost 5 dozen people dieing from cancer is a problem. There are currently over 7 billion people in the world. The most recent cancer death numbers I could find are from 2012, which state 8.2 million people died from cancer. That's 0.11% of the population. For the 56 deaths at the Samsung factory to be consistent with world wide cancer deaths, the same 0.11%, there would need to be over 49,000 people working at that factory.

Every workplace has its hazards; some worse than others.  It is the joint responsibility of the employer AND employees to ensure the safety of everyone while at work.  There hasn't been any confirmation as to who is at fault (i.e. Samsung not supplying proper gear or employees not wearing gear that was mandatory).  It is terrible that Samsung tried to cover it up and I hope they get things fixed ASAP.

It is a sad reality that these things happen at almost every workplace...this case is just high profile because it is Samsung; so keep that in mind.

I can't believe the number of people defending Samsung here. Some guy legally donates money to help pass a law that 7 million other people vote in favor of, and these forums are calling for his blood. But 56 people die and it's "meh, that's just the way things work".

You're just so wrong man. While the suicide rate for any age group should be zero the rate for working adults is as high as the rate for teenagers, which should say a lot. I'm fairly sure Foxconn denied the claim that workers had to sign an anti-suicide contract, although it is true that both Apple and HP agreed to work with Foxconn to better the working environment.

Anti-suicide contract is 100% real and 100% disgusting. So is your arrogant stance on the situation. All US based companies have a legal obligation to make sure their workers are treated according to the laws of what ever country their facility is located in. Contacting with a facility in China does not remove that legal obligation. Foxconn was not obeying the law and not even following their own policies, and the result was people flinging themselves from the rooftop.

Just like you can find articles saying that it's not the case:

And will you please show me this law? It is unrealistic to say the least. I agree that you should be concerned with the welfare of your subcontractors workforce, but it can in no way be your responsibility to enforce it. I know first hand how deceptive the appearance on the floor is when the big shots come to visit, even in Denmark you are asked by your boss to make sure everything is pristine and that you are doing something, even if there is nothing to do, so how do you expect a customer to have a damn clue about what's going on? The welfare of the workforce is on the shoulders of the company that employs them and that company alone.

At least Apple has the decency to let a foreign company abuse their countrymen, where as Samsung seems to be happy to do it to their own.

Of course FoxConn denied it, but all the evidence disproves their claim. As far as the law "9th Circuit: Corporations Can Be Sued For Human Rights Violations Abroad" Foxconn is under contract with Apple, making every Foxconn employee working on Apple products a contract employee's of Apple. The anti-suicide contracts that the employees are forced to sign are in direct response to the despicable allegations by Foxconn that the people were committing suicide for the sole purpose of giving their family's an excuse to sue and get a big cash payout.

The Apple workers just commit suicide, and do it so often that they had to put anti-suicide nets around the building.

Because Apple factory workers have died too. It was from suicide, but dead is dead when bad working conditions are what contribute to the death.

They're Foxconn workers and they produce products for nearly every major technology company including Acer, Amazon, Blackberry, Cisco, Dell, Google, HP, Microsoft, Motorola, Nintendo, Nokia, Sony, Toshiba, and more not just Apple.

I do hope that these workers pull through and give Samsung the publicity and public image it deserves. Now that does not mean that I will start to trash Samsung's phones; the S5 is not too shabby. But no one deserves to be afflicted with something like this because Samsung didn't bother with precautions that would cost next to nothing for Samsung.

Samsung's attitude towards its employees seems to mirror its attitude towards its customers. Oh, you worked hard in our factories? Good, go and die from all those substances you were in contact with daily. Oh, you paid $700 for our newest smartphone that costs $250 to make? Good, now go rot with whatever OS version we give you, and have fun with KNOX and SELinux cause you can't root even if you wanted to.
