Old game performance with vs without ReBar

san-e

I recently upgraded from a 1050 Ti to a RX6600 and expected a noticeable performance uplift to go with it, which I got in most more modern games. However, in older games (CS:GO in particular), performance is often worse than the 1050 Ti, to the point that newer maps are actually unplayable, which I presume is because of the older graphics API. After some research, some people apparently got pretty sizable speedups after enabling resizable bar, but my mainboard doesn't support it. I'd just like some assurance that that actually is the problem before I shell out for a whole platform upgrade.

Thanks in advance

B350 doesn't support resizable bar. So a platform upgrade would be needed. I'd also recommend(if you plan on sticking with Ryzen) upgrading your ram as well. 2400mhz is pretty low for Ryzen processors, you'll want at least 3000mhz speeds for Ryzen to perform optimally. If you would like some platform upgrade suggestions let us know.

some advice would be appreciated, yeah

as far as i can tell, b550 would be the best option, but thats a dead end platform, no? I havent looked much into intels offerings

Well it's dead end in terms of new CPU's coming out, but there's still a decent upgrade path from a 3600. I think the final one is the 5600x3d, but that is rare and ony available at Micro center in the US, so a 5800x3d is really the last one.  I wouldn't bother changing to a 500 series AM4 board just for rebar, unless you see a magnificent deal.

If you really want to upgrade platforms I'd personally go with AM5 as they will probably support it longer than Intel, but it's expensive either way, and with a 6600 I doubt you'll see much improvement, if any.....a R5 3600 is plenty for that GPU.

I think theres something else hamstringing you with those older games, but not sure what, sorry. Are you on the latest AMD drivers for the 6600? Have you looked at GPU/CPU/RAM usage during those older games?

Maybe try overlcoking that ram? most DDR4 ram I've had can get to 2933 at least.
