Hi all,

So I just received part of my pc parts for my new PC that I am building but I still have yet to pull the trigger on which GPU I am buying. I am unsure If I should got with the RX 7900XT or with an NVIDIA 4070Ti (unsure which version as well). I was leaning more towards the 7900XT because of more VRAM but do not know if that is a really big deal. The 7900XT also seems to be outperforming the 4070ti in most benchmarks.

My past GPU's have all been NVIDIA (GTX 960 and 1080ti) so I have no experience with AMD GPU's whatsoever.

The build that I put together and already bought:

PCPartPicker Part List: https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/list/jyphnt

CPU: Intel Core i7-13700K 3.4 GHz 16-Core Processor (€439.00 @ Amazon Netherlands)
CPU Cooler: Deepcool AK620 68.99 CFM CPU Cooler (€73.85 @ Megekko)
Motherboard: MSI MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard (€328.91 @ Amazon Netherlands)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory (€104.85 @ Azerty)
Storage: Western Digital Black SN770 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (€107.90 @ Amazon Netherlands)
Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case (€89.90 @ Amazon Netherlands)
Power Supply: Corsair RM850x (2021) 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (€159.90 @ Amazon Netherlands)
Case Fan: ARCTIC P12 56.3 CFM 120 mm Fan (€8.01 @ Amazon Netherlands)
Case Fan: ARCTIC P12 56.3 CFM 120 mm Fan (€8.01 @ Amazon Netherlands)
Total: €1320.33

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for:

  • GTA
  • The Last of Us Part 1
  • God of War
  • Cyberpunk
  • Upcoming BF and COD
  • CSGO
  • Any new upcoming games that I find interesting
  • I like to have youtube/twitch open on my 2nd monitor while gaming

Monitors I am using:

  • XL2411Z
  • ASUS ROG PG258Q

For now I will play on 1080p, but I hope to play 1440p in the future with a new monitor.

Thanks in advance.

ye that 13700k is fine and actually about on par with the 7800X3D (except draws more power and gets hotter)

get the 7900 xt for sure if just gaming and maybe streaming. Better performance for less. But you do miss out on some features

The missing features being better ray tracing and dlss? Never really put any research into these features since they do not seem to be worth it as of yet for the current games?

AMD has FSR so thats a good counterpart and ray tracing isn't too big

Do I really miss out on a lot with pairing an Intel CPU with an AMD GPU? I mean I have not unboxed anything yet but it is probs not worth the hassle returning stuff etc right

Not, you have some benmefits pairing AMD with AMD (antilag... Dont even know if that shit works) but you dont get any benefits of pairing nvidea with intel either...

Yeah, with the 7900xt, which I agree with, you'll need to turn on rebar in BIOS.

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂

No doubt - 7900XT, but i wouldn't close that much money in a dead platform. Better go AM5 with 7800X3D for both better gaming performance and upgradability.

Edit:

They've already bought all their parts. The 13700k isn't too bad of a chip and normally performs like the 7800X3D but with higher thermals and power draw. it is better for productivity tho

It's not a bad CPU yes, but not at €400+...  Considering it's 12-50% slower in gaming than the 7800X3D (some games just love the additional L3 cache) and the fact that it's the end of life for LGA 1700, it's not really a great value at that price. €440 is just nuts.

I received the package today and have not unboxed anything. Just not sure if it is worth the hassle to return everything and get a new MOBO, CPU and RAM

It;s entirely up to you and how the return policy in The Netherlands works. Here it's no hustle at all and it doesn't cost a thing. It's your basic right as a consumer. I would do it in a heartbeat, even with gaming performance aside. The upgradability path is a really cool nice to have, especially with AMD. If the new 3nm Ryzens turn out to slash in performance, upgrading is as simple as download new BIOS > reflash > take out old CPU > put new one in > DONE. It's also much cheaper than buying new mobo and ram all over again.

Keep the 13700k. Its a perfectly decent chip and just draws more power and has higher thermals. But performs AROUND the same (some games are different) but its still a decent chip.

BUT on an Ak620 I would really consider swapping it out for a lower power chip like the 7800X3D or 13700 (non K). Yes this will make your wait longer but then your thermals won't be too high

Also are you doing any all core work?

What do you mean by "all core work"?

I have always been questioning whether I should get a 13700k or non k but ended up with the K version to not miss out on any performance. Is the AK620 not sufficient enough to cool the K version even if I undervolt it?

Do you know what cinebench (an example) does to the cpu? Essentially it maxes out all cores at 100% no matter what thermals

Tbh the temps won't be amazing (at around 80c on all core workload so a bit less while gaming) but you should be fine. You could keep it imo
