Choose 5800x3d, 5900x, 5950 on MSI X570 Gaming Plus motherboard?

I am using MSI X570 Gaming Plus motherboard. I have read about its VRM. 100A is not too good. I plan to upgrade to 5000 series to max out AM4 socket. My work is mainly office, medium video editing and gaming. Which processor should I use? ( 5800x3d, 5900x, 5950x) . I'm leaning towards 5800x3d for power efficiency, it should be fine with my vrm. is 5900x/5950x running at stock  with this board ok?

5800X3D runs at the same power as the 5900X and 5950x but for gaming it'll probs be lower cuz of the 3d v cache. But for video editing the 5900x/5950x will be better. Also what do you want to prioritise? Gaming or video editing? If its gaming then go for the 5800X3D. If its video editing then 5900X or 5950X. Also the vrms should be fine for any of these cpus

If you play a lot of MMO/multiplayer games, then I'd recommend the 5800x3D over the latter. The 3D v-cache is night and day for those sorts of games that become CPU limited very easily, especially in player dense areas with high draw calls.

If you primarily play nothing but single player games, then the 5950x on that board should be fine and it'll maximize the productivity performance of the platform. 5950x is I think still one of the best performance/watt CPUs out there.

I think gaming will be my most processor intensive task. 8c/16t should be fine for my productivity tasks. After a bit of research, 12c/24t on the 5900x is probably too much for me. I am currently using 6c/12t and very rarely 100% fullload

If only it would be 5950x3d like 7950x3d. Will the 8c/16t of 5800x3d last at least the next 5 years?

Should, a 6c/12t should do the same for at least gaming so an 8c/16t should be the same. I wouldn't expect a 5950x's 16c/32t to last any longer than a 5800x3D's 8c/16t for gaming since we're most likely to continue seeing single threaded limitations continue to be the common denominator for CPUs in gaming, something the 5800x3D does far better at.

Either way unless things get really bad for generational improvements, 5 years from now will show how limiting today's CPUs are but performance available now is something you can expect to maintain with a given CPU. Ray tracing being notoriously CPU intensive yet that doesn't occupy an 8c/16t fully yet. If you're CPU capped at like 240 fps today, 5 years from now might be 480 fps in the same game. Whether or not that'll be worth it to you is entirely up to you. Plenty of people still game on +5 year old CPUs.

Just an example, performance expectations are all relative so 5 years from now you may still be content with your performance. People just run into the fallacy where they buy a new GPU and drop it in their +5 year old system not realizing they're getting a fraction of the performance in tons of games, if any performance gains at all in some. So if ~$300 USD now will tide you over for ~5 years, that's a great value. For gaming, the 5800x3D will outlast the 5950x by a lot.

However, if you do want longevity in performance with a guarantee, something like the 13900k/7950x3D are the only proper answers to your question. Given the scenario, the 5800x3D will suite you better than the 5950x. We'll likely see CPUs with more L2+L3 cache natively from Intel within the next 5 years and AMD will either allocate more die space to cache and/or improve their 3D v-cache technology. Intel will also eventually catch up on the manufacturing process since that's reaching a mechanical limitation.

some boards can oc 5800x3D. also PBO2 does work (at least for undervolting which is recommended as the chip is coming in a bit hot otherwise which actually does lower performance a bit)
