i7 4790k can turbo boost to 4.4GHz

Faa

The Core i7-4790K will be the flagship processor of the Haswell Refresh lineup and the first 22nm consumer CPU to obtain clock frequency of 4 GHz and a maximum boost clock of 4.4 GHz which is also a first for Intel. It will feature 4 cores and 8 threads along with a fully unlocked design which will allow users to overclock the chip past the limits thanks to the improved thermal design and updated package materials. The Core i7-4790K will feature a 88W TDP and would come with the latest HD 4600 graphics chip clocked at 1250 MHz. Pricing is not known at the moment.

Only goes up to 4.4GHz with a single core enabled though.

Single core. Boost is always single.

4.0 GHz base clock is pretty nice, but almost all 4770k can do that, we need to wait for overclocking reviews

Originally speculated, at most, an upgraded version of the clock +100 MHz, but it seems that the top Core i7-4790K is not so simple, basic clock will be increased to 4GHz, Turbo Boost to reach 4.4GHz, than the original Core 3.5/3.9 i7-4770K's GHz up to 500MHz, the magnitude is not small, it seems to put a better TIM thermal media and new packaging materials, really solved the problem of poor heat earlier, it seems really easy on the 5GHz. As for Core i5-4690K is only to enhance the 100MHz only. Another part of both the TDP 88W, 84W per cent more than the original number.

Translated with google translate half of it doesn't make sense.

a 4670k overclocked already does that... this just pours salt into the wound...

on how many cores?

Probably like this:

1core: 4.4

2core: 4.3

3core: 4.2

4core: 4.1

In my experience I've seen boards making more agressive use of the turbo; if I load the default bios settings the turbo is like it should be but whenever I change my ram frequency to 1600MHz from 1333MHz I get the max turbo clock (3.8GHz on my 3930K) in prime95 instead of 3.3GHz.

Default bios settings: http://i.imgur.com/ry10jES.png

Enabling xmp only: http://i.imgur.com/FGSADfd.png

Pretty sure Asus did this on their z68, z77 boards and this RIVE, it wouldn't surprise me that they do it again. Even with Haswell boards as you could see a 10% difference in cinebench between the boards that didnt use it and the ones that did: http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/4587/48/37-haswell-motherboard-group-test-28x-z87-6x-h87-and-3x-b85-benchmarks-cinebench-115

Edit: the agressive turbo seems to be there again with Z97

"Het gros van de borden heeft wat we noemen standaard een agressieve Turbo, wat betekent dat wanneer alle cores belast worden (zoals bijvoorbeeld bij Cinebench) de CPU toch naar z'n maximale Turbo-stand wordt gebracht, 3,9 GHz in het geval van de door ons gebruikte 4770K. Andere borden doen het zoals het hoort (volgens Intel dan) en Turbo'en bij vier cores in gebruik naar 200 MHz lager, 3,7 GHz bij de 4770K."

Taken from: http://be.hardware.info/reviews/5380/50/19-intel-z97-chipset-moederborden-review-de-nieuwe-generatie-getest-benchmarks-cinebench-115

Translating this; basically the boards that did have the agressive turbo the 4770K boosted to 3.9GHz in Cinebench which gave a score of 8.60 - and boards that didnt have just boosted to an extra 200MHz which is 3.7GHz gave 8.16.

on how many cores?

Single. Quad core turbo is not equal to 1-2 core turbo.

I7 4770k does 3.9 on 1-2, 3.8 on 3, 3.7 on 4. I5-4670k does 3.8, 3.7 and 3.6 on 4.

^ Table of cores/turbo on those cores for current Intel chips.

So the new I5 K has the turbo of the old I7 K. Looks like the I7's are pretty highly binned if this is true.

I wonder if these chips are actually better overclockers or if they just binned them better, given that these chips are running at frequencies that most Haswell chips maxed out at.

If the i7 base clock is really at 4.0GHz on all cores IMO that is a significant improvement over the 4770K

fingers crossed for solder ( doubtful)

complete speculation until official info is released, however lots of these little leaks seem to be true :)
