Dear everybody,

I need a list for what to buy *in terms of technology*  for college. I am taking CIS " Computer information systems," and VB "Visual Basic" as courses.

I already have a kingston lock cable, I have a shit ton of cables in general." Dad was a server admin.

Heres my real question,

What brand, model of laptop is the best for gaming? I like Asus or Msi brand. I don't care for astectics (design) I care about Preformance. Also i want 18' laptop, Keep that in mind also. Budget 2000-2500$ but if you convince me enough... i might consider going higher.

What headset is the best for bass "budget 300$"

How much storage"portable" should I get.

I have been granted to use * Education pricing* and financial aid for all of my tech, food and everything.

Other stuff mabey? Recommend i get some other tech besides a laptop or storage and a headset? please respond with (around the responce) answer.

Also if you are so kind and have the time, please put a url link as to where the cheapest stores to get this tech.

If anyone can do that I would love it!

Thanks,

           Trevor, a LTT user

For 2500 you could just build a $1500 PC and buy a $1000 ultrabook and literally have the best of both experiences rather than a 'meh' of both

just putting that out there.

but if I had to choose, I would probably go for an MSI laptop

Asus ROG laptops are the best

best performance with a good price too

their cooling is great, so your laptop will never overheat

although im not sure if they have 18in laptops, they surely have 17.3in which is pretty close :)

Or you could get an Aorus X7 and have 400$ to spare. I was honestly against the whole gaming laptop thing until I ended up using that laptop exclusively for over a week on vacation.

  1. Msi seems good in lasting & perfomance gaming laptop or asus both seem neck & neck.
  2. for bass either go for beats pro/studio or vmoda m-100 or lp2's.
  3. for portable storage you should get atleast a terabyte (you'll thank me later) plus on ssd based external drive.
  4. other things you might wanna get are portable power brick , a laptop cooler (maybe) , wifi range extendor , whole shit load of adapters , secondary mouse, and a kenny loggins Christmas cd.

1. MSI and ASUS are in fact good.

2. If he wants bass, why go for a pair of horrid headphones? He could get Custom One Pros or something else. @EmoRarity is much more knowledgeable in this section.

3. SSD-based? All that is doing is cramping the budget for the laptop. A 1TB external SSD is going to cost shit tons.

4. A cooler is nearly unnecessary unless OP has his laptop on a couch/bed, a WiFi range extender shouldn't be needed, that doesn't make any sense, and really? The last one is just straight up trolling.

Don't tag me bro

On the cheap and dirty you can pick up a pair of V-Moda Crossfade LP's and the BoomPro and make a $100ish headset that doesn't suck horse dick.

For the laptop part of your question, MSI has a nice new line of "3k" laptops which is almost 4k (resolution), which I would recommend.

ASUS is always good too.

Have a look at Sagernotebooks too, they have lots of customization options and even SLI GTX 880M notebooks.

1: we can agree.

2: headphone was rather a reccomendation great for bass heads (i'm not fanboying) for ear shattering bass. it's optional.

3: ssd based for fast easy access to data (can carry around in pockets & drop down or throw around without worrying about  corrupting the data for important files like powerpoint presentations or keynote presentations plus usb 2 port spinning hdd is gonna be outdated soon) 1Tb Hdd is gonna cost a lot & might be unsafe to handle roughly ,but i'd rather see a single hard drive vs 3 hard drives jam packed to the brink (you get a lot off content (i mean a LOT) if you're of to college.

i've got a guy who carries around 7,  500 gig ext hdd 3 of them corrupted already one & half years of somewhat continuous usage & have issues with opening up the files inside)

4:those are optional side dishes since he's going for a gaming module, especially if its with twin graphics chips it's damn sure its gonna get hot, whether he like it or not , it's not practical , but can help keep thinggs steady overtime.

and who doesn't like a little kenny loggins on gloomy nights? :P

Don't know much about the other stuff but the headphones, if you want a lot of bass, go with V-Moda M-100, or if you just want a lot of punchy bass you could go with the Audio Technica ATH-M50x. If you needed a mic on it you could get a ModMic or the Zalman clip on mic, whatever that thing is called. If you have been considering beats, steer clear, sir. Oh, and also Custom One Pro by Beyerdynamic are pretty good.

Seconded to get a desktop+ultrabook. I rolled with that setup during my degree years but now since my masters is in a foreign country, I have to stick to just a notebook. If you are adamant to get only 1 PC, take a look at the Asus G750JZ that Linus and Slick use for their wan show.

Things that i think will benefit you with your studies:

1) A good mechanical keyboard (you will be typing allot, so invest in a good one. My pick would be CM Quickfire TK since it is quite small pseudo full sized keyboard)

2) A good mouse (duh!)

3) Second monitor (coding with 2 monitors is so much better)

4) A rugged external HDD/SSD (unless you doing something with multimedia, a usb drive 8gb+ will be enough)

5) A good powered USB hub to plug all those things in.

6) Extra laptop battery/powerbank.

7) Bad-ass techie's backpack to stuff everything inside (Asus made one to match the laptop)

That's all I could think off at the top of my head, good luck in college.
