Thinking of upgrading my Ryzen 5 3600XT and ASRock B450m Steel Legend. Are they worth changing?

Go to solution Solved by RONOTHAN##,

Upgrading the CPU isn't necessarily a bad idea, a 5600 is a pretty big step up from the 3600 XT, but upgrading the motherboard makes no sense. AM4 is a dead platform at this point, and the motherboard only plays a role in performance if it's inadequate for the CPU, which for the single CCD chips like you're looking at the B450m Steel Legend is plenty. Only reason I see to swap your motherboard is if you're board dies, and even then at that point you're probably better off going for an upgrade to AM5 or 13th gen intel, odds are that it'll end up about the same cost if you're considering going for an X570 board.

I looked into the CPU and UserBenchmark says that between the two I'm looking at (Ryzen 7 5700X and 5800X), there's an improvement of around 15%.

Dont trust User benchmark, their data is about as biased as they come. Use other actually reputable sources instead.

GPU: GeForce RTX 3070 TI

MoBo: ASRock B450M Steel Legend

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600XT

Ram: 16GB

PSU: EVGA 500 GD, 80+ GOLD

I'm currently planning on upgrading my PC. I'm getting a new PSU and 32 gigs of ram. I'm considering getting a new CPU and motherboard as well. I looked into the CPU and UserBenchmark says that between the two I'm looking at (Ryzen 7 5700X and 5800X), there's an improvement of around 15%. I looked into upgrading to an x570 motherboard, and the most I could find is that they're SLI compatible (which I don't care about). I'm not really using my PC to render super complex blender creations or mine bitcoin. I just want to play the latest games, do work and edit videos. At the very most, I'll play some kind of very demanding VR game. Is it worth it in the long run to change it?

Yes, independent testers like Hardware Unboxed, Gamer Nexus, etc.  Or various review sites that show actual performance graphs and breakdowns.

As above, no need to change motherboard.  It's a foundation is all.  Drop in a 5600, 5600x, 5800x3d etc.   Your best upgrade if the 5800x3d for the money, it's a good pairing with that GPU.

actual review, for example Hardware Unboxed. They do quite a lot of benchmarking... 3600XT wont be present in the graps but its just a bit better than the 3600X so i would just look at the results for the 3600X and keep in mind that the 3600XT is a tiny bit better...

On what resolution do you play? I have a 5600 (non-X but with a lite OC) paired with my 6800XT and in 1440p ultrawide im still GPU limited most of the time.

if you upgrade to AM5 you would need a new CPU, mainboard and RAM... so not really worth it in my opinion, if you have some money to spend get a 5800X3D and just replace your 3600XT with that...

I have a 4k monitor and I like how it looks, but if there's any performance issues (which there usually are for newer games) I'm fine with dropping it down

actually the higher resolution = less stress on CPU
