Arguably lower quality LTT content concerning Phones and Macs when they could do better.

First of all, I am certainly not a hater to LTT content and only wish they do better by posting this.

 

Ok, let's get on to what I wanted to say for a long time--LTT is not very good at making phone or Mac (I argue they are pretty similar after Mac's full transition to Arm) content when they clearly could do better. I will start by providing some examples to my claim. First, did you guys see the short circuit M2 Mac book pro video? The whole video is mostly focussed on the "physical properties" of the laptop like sound quality or keyboard and trackpad feel and other things like that WHEN LITERALLY NOTHING CHANGED FROM THE LAST GEN. The only change was the chip and probably the most note worthy part for any viewers looking to upgrade. This was however only briefly touched upon. Clearly a short circuit video is not the best way to introduce this new laptop. A proper deep dive into M2 performance and architecture as a LTT main channel videos would be so much more helpful to the viewers looking to upgrade. I am aware that Linus said that people just don't watch these as much so let's take a look at another example: their "water cooled Mac Studio" video on their main channel. This video is about how LTT modified a Mac Studio to be water cooled and resulted it to be a complete waste of time. And they should have seen it coming because AS THEY SHOULD KNOW, the M1 lineup can't be clocked pass 3.2 GHz and just for this reason the Mac Studio was never thermally limited in the first place. In the end they took time and energy to make   the computer worse than it was, with a higher profile, no warranty and at a much higher risk of leaks and water loop failure in the future. What is even the point of this video? Is the M1 series chips poorly understood by the LTT team or is it just an attempt to use a common PC content strategy on something that works differently? (I am aware that MAC address exist and is putting out good content, but where is th more "tech savvy " content?)

 

Then there are phone reviews. I have always thought that there is a clear lack of deep diving phone chip reviews on YouTube and wished that one day LTT might be the one, but my god their phone reviews are just bad. Every single video concludes to " the camera is decent, the screen is decent, everything is decent... and oh, apple made this phone? well apple suck but phone is decent or someone else made it? well it's decent. " So, I recently found a phone chip review by "geekerwan" and if you have time go and take a look. That is what I wanted LTT reviews to be like. I wish LTT content on these matters is more researched and tested. I mean they have a lab of equipment so when are they going to use it? 

 

At last, I repeat I do not wish LTT or its fellow channels ill. I only see a thing LTT can improve on to make their channel better. (I really hope someone from their team sees this)

They really need to improve on this But the issue with Phone benchmarks Cpu isnt the only factor this things are completely integrated and unlike pcs most of the stuff is locked away from the user requiring root access at that point it is very hard to make content and labs might be able to it bench mark every phone (You cant just bench mark the SOC bcz most phones have different TJ max and Power delivery settings). and most people don't need the performance at all and i personally care more about display and camara. so you realistically cant compare these things   everybody has their personal likings so many people like the Vivid Mode in Samsung phones so color accuracy doesn't make any sense and camara also every phone has a different processing algorithm do the things their way so the best thing is either get a chance to use the phone before buyying You cant really on The YT videos (due to compression) to know this two facts.

Even so, I would argue that they don't even go as far as to tell you how the screens and cameras perform. Channels like MKBHD certainly does it far better than them and as a channel with 15Million subs I expect better content from them. I only used performance as a possible way they could improve, but yeah, you are totally right, they should do the other stuff justice too.

i Have high hops in Labs and the biggest asking from me will be don't have any compression on the images for these kinds of things for laptops or mobiles or displays upload raw

LTT hasn't make an iPhone review in years because honestly it's getting real boring in the mobile space. Every year is an iterative increment in performance. Sure you can spend 30minutes comparing performances between different fabs and chips but end of the day LTT's targetted audience or Linus himself are just using phones as a tool and they work just fine. LTT staff likes to tinker stuff and there's nothing much to tinker when it comes to phones.

Nope. water cooling RED is because RED cameras are very hot and do benefit from additional cooling, Phones do as well. SSDs though do not suffer from overheating issues do have a problem that they are constantly exposed to high temperatures. Mac Studio is not the same. It had no thermal problem to begin with. It has a cooler half the size of the whole computer with a chip clocked at 3.2Ghz. There is no point to do it in the first place. If you water cool a 12900Ks you get more performance because it is thermally limited, for Mac Studio this is not the case and it should have been clear from the start. 

Also about your phone comment. I could say the exact same thing about PCs and laptops. What is there to even tinker in anything anymore? Every factory is just making a different looking but essentially same thing. Back in the LGA 775 to about  LGA1150 days PC hardware manufacturers dare to experiment with new designs. They may not work so well but yeah, lots to tinker with. What is left for the PC industry now? ( if you don't want to play 4k 120 a 12600K+3070+16G+512G would be good enough for years to come, just like your phones)

It's silly to think they watercool something because they are trying to get more performance out of it. They do it because they can and like to do ridiculous stuff like this all the time.

Basically my point is, there's not much stuff you can do with a phone as compared to PC. LTT is more of a content creation than reviewing products kind of channel.

I literally don't care about Mac reviews. I literally don't care about phones. If I did, there are dedicated channels that aren't LMG that have infinitely better content for this, since other than Mac Address, LMG just doesn't cover this stuff.

1) You technically could.  You can use usb c - HDMI

3) Not really but you could buy stickers and sticker bomb it or do lighting mods or whatever 

4) Maybe with dex it is possible i think 8K is the cap i dont know about disply extending tho and cant find anything online talking about it (You can extend the screen to dex and use the device in normal mode so maybe that is possible) 

5) That doesn't make any sense for a phone but prob yes with a right block you technically could

and about the second paragraph...I DO CARE THOUGH( kind of why I wrote the stuff in the first place).You might not be interested but I can't bare that their Mac content is of lower quality and that that is really not what a big channel like them should put out. I mean, if they start putting real effort into Mac content, only make them better tech reviewers right?

also you are kind of still thinking in the way of using a PC, don't you agree that phones would have their own way of "tinkering"? For example, the radiator desk might not be needed for a 10 watt phone. Also, exactly why can't you play a "racing sim"? like why is that on the list? Look, I get it. But, 98% of the channel content is not Mac or phone related. They don't really do anything beyond a brief unboxing and first look at most phones, and that's usually on ShortCircuit, not LTT.

 

I get that you want phone reviews, and Mac reviews, but LTT just isn't the place for it.

 

I would love to see mechanical keyboards reviewed, but there are other, better places for that content. Same with cameras, DSLR, and action cameras.

That's the whole point of short circuit. It's basically a channel that looks at the surface level of things without going too deep, in order to have a video out quickly.

I argue that 189K is not the same as 5 people though. Also, the same could be said about PC's from the outside. "the chip is X86 based and slightly faster." I mean it is surprising that so much things changed on the architecture level on phone chips and that you still fail to see that. If you go and look around a bit you will certainly see that phone chips are not just" the same but faster".

Because the content evolved over time?

 

They still do that stuff, but not with phones, nor with Apple products. Phone reviews stopped a long time ago, and after the broken Mac screen fiasco, I don't think they've really done much, if anything, on the LTT channel other than mentions or first looks, or news tidbits.

I personally feel that LTT should stop doing reviews all togheter.

 

Their best content is doing stupid stuff/builds, so I don’t have to. One that sticks out is when they made their own CPU coolers. 
 

So from my stand point water cooling the Mac Studio, along with a RED camera, phone etc, is within stuff LTT should focus on making.

 

In short do fun stuff that some times turn out to be a good idea instead of boring reviews.

EDIT:// For the record since OP is fairly new on the forum, I’m a Mac user and have no problems with Linuses dislike for Apple stuff, some times he has a point some times he’s just wrong because of lack of knowlege. But unlike a lot of people in this forum he’s not just a blind anti fan boy because ”apple bad”.

My iPhone XR runs the same software as the iPhone 14. Aside from the camera, nothing's really changed.
