Mortola Number of Years of Support

Good Evening,

 

Does anyone happen to know how many years of updates Motorola offer on their phones.  Was able to find an article from last November indicating 1 OS update and 2 security updates but nothing more current.

 

Thinking of updating my dad's phone and trying to find verbiage of how many years each company has committed to updates for their phones.  Any help is appreciated.  Cheers!

Doesn't look like Motorola gives 2-poops about supporting their phones beyond maybe 1 OS update and 2 security updates. In other words, avoid buying Motorola devices for the foreseeable future. To add to what kirashi said: Motorola is getting a bit better about its higher-end phones, but the truth is that you'll need to look elsewhere if you want long-term software support. The company is somehow clinging to the "bad old days" of Android where vendors tried to force phone upgrades by abandoning support as quickly as possible.

 

For Android, the best update policies come from Samsung (four years of version updates for at least flagships) and Google (three years of version updates, five years for security).  The best support regardless of platform comes from Apple: you'll typically get five to six years of version updates, and you may still get crucial security updates after that.
