I need looped in to 3000 series

OnionRings

Thinkin' bout an upgrade come tax season, this 2060 showing some real age on me. But I don't know much about the 3000 series cards, tbh I didn't bother as they were out of my grasp for so long, but they're finally coming down with 4000 series coming out, so perhaps I can nab something.

I currently game at 1080p144, so I was thinking about a 3070, would that handle that fine? But what if I decide to start dabbling in 1440? What would I need for 1440p144? A 3080? Or a 3070 Ti? Hopefully not a 3090, that might be a bit much, those are still around 1k and ill need a new PSU as well.

1080p144 is no problem for even a 3060 with RTX activated.  You can even set the settings quite high. For 1440p144, a 3070 should do it

6800 are around 450$ used on ebay

3080 and 6900xt are around 600$ used on ebay

and 3090 are around 800$ used on ebay

I'm not buying used, can't trust if anybody mined with their cards, if they were taken care of, etc.

Miners take care of their cards and put them in cool environments, even undervolting the gpu too so they run cool

Gamers on the other hand dont do any of that, they vary from treated very well to treated terribly (maybe a smoker or a very dusty environment or something) whereas miners usually take care of the gpus so treated well

If you wanna get a worse card for the price go ahead, though may aswell wait for the rx 7000 launch or rtx 4000 full launch since those seem to offer massive improvements in performance

i've seen 3080 12gb for as low as 675-700, probably the best nvidia bang4buck from nvidia for the 3000 series, if you have to stick with nvidia anyway.

though a 6900xt for 600usd beats it, and you can also flash it with a 6950xt bios.

Though to be honest i think all these cards will get blown out of the water by next gen like never before, and it's just around the corner.

for 1440p 144hz my recommendation is at least a 3080 12gb

Cant get warranties on used cards. Might wait for 4000 if it doesn't take too long, hopefully out by tax season.

I just have a strong bias against AMD cards, I had a lot of issues with them in the past, and my family still does to this day. Faulty cards, poor performance, dont like the software, drivers not updating/working right. None of these issues I've had with nvidia. Maybe its unlucky, or I had bad cards, I don't know.

What does the AMD cards have over nvidia these days anyway? Other than just better pricing?

i can say that the 6950xt is about 10% faster than my 3080ti in practice at 1440p uw and VR, higher lows and draws less power (doesnt really matter to gamers), this is my first amd card since the 4870 (cause fermi sucked). the nvidia card is better at 4k, and dlss>fsr, and ive been using nvidia voice consistently.

That said, AMD drivers are worse, functional but a bit jank, if u have a strong bias against amd this won't change ur mind. I will say this, after using the 6950xt, if amd can match nvidia's performance and be 10-20% cheaper, i won't hesitate to go amd after reviews

All fair points, this actually made up my mind though, you reminded me DLSS is way better. Ill just keep my bias and pay more, thanks though.

I’d do a 3060ti for 1080p and a 3080 for 1440p.
I ran my 3080 for months on a 1440p 165hz monitor and it was great. I swapped from a 3070 to the 3080 on the same monitor and saw a big improvement in fps at that resolution.

If your ok with buying used Reddit hardwareswap group is the move, I’ve been seeing 3080’s selling for $5-$550 on the regular

No cpu mobo or ram atm

Corsair rm750x
