meg b550 unify, Ryzen 9 5900x, overheating to 110°c in under thirty seconds

Mlwest97

It overheats and shuts down in under 30 seconds after powering it on. Bios is version E7D13AMS.140.   hx850 Corsair PSU. also getting cpu fan error.  It is watercooled and has the pump connected to the pump header on Mobo and has a case fan connected to CPU fan header. Iv tried swapping those around several different ways. I have also completely taken the entire PC apart. Cleaned it. And rebuilt it making sure everything was seated correctly. I don't have access to another computer so not sure what options I have in terms of bios changes.  Bios should still be the same it's been the entire time iv been using the PC.   Not sure what caused the issue.  Was working like normal. Left it on but with user lock screen up like usual and when I came back to it it was off.  Not sure what I'm leaving out. I'm sure there's a lot.  Please help asap.  And thank you really.

What cooler are you using? Sounds like it's either not working or not mounted tightly.

It's firmly mounted. It's a MSI ek elite AIO or something like that I believe.  Kinda hard to find model specific info on it if not for one of the fans having that sticker

Looks like its older.

Are you sure your pump is running? You can try different  fan headers for the pump and fans.

Also try to adjust the fancurve in the mobo settings.

Since it shutsdown so fast its most likely that your pump is broken. You can try touching the cpu block and try too feel if there is anykind of movement / vibration. If not is most likely dead.

It looks like an EK-AIO and isn't from Msi. https://www.ekwb.com/solutions/all-in-one/

Is the pump plugged in and running?

If so, which header is it plugged into? Can you see the rpm?

Well so unfortunately I never did feel the pump when it was working to have something to compare it to now.   I honestly think it might not be working.   With that being said. Spending money is currently and for the foreseeable future not an option for me sadly so any way to get this solved without buying new parts is what my goal is here. this AIO is one that can be refilled and I am not the type to back down from a challenge in terms of reparing/rebuilding stuff. What is the possibility of repairing the pump? If so how would I go about that.  And finally if that's not an option will taking an old simple heatsink and fan from an old PC's CPU suffice if I can manage to firmly attach it?

Also yeah that's it.  I guess I just overlooked it and assumed it was MSI since I knew I wasn't Corsair lol.

if it continues doing this, check and see if there isn't a piece of plastic film on the bottom of the cooler/block, where it meets the chip itself when mounted.
Sometimes those can be missed with ease and WILL make it run hot in a hurry if it's still there.
Just peel off, Re-TIM, remount and you should be set if all else is OK.

If it's refillable, you can try draining it, cleaning with a solution (for water cooling loops) and refilling.

If its realy broken it is esyer to just get a cheap air cooler.

You can first try remounting it and check if everything is proberly attached. And try all the different fanheader on the mobo.

One other concern is that it might be more than just the pump.   Would 110°c 30 to 45 sec after powering on be something to be expected with a Ryzen 9 5900x with a dead pump connected? Just seems really high to me but idk

Is it under warranty? If you can confirm the pump is plugged into power but not running, you should send it in for a replacement.

Yes. Dead pump means there's little to no active cooling.

Did you check the pump power cable yet? Which header is it plugged into?
