I have had an uptick in my numbers the last few days with the arrival of (2) 4080's that I got on launch day. Yes I know.... Horrible Value and all. But... I reason it this way. If you look at my ppd going back the last year plus, you will see constant ppd production. I look at GPU's for their long term production and ppd vs power consumption. When I put the 4080's online I was using nearly 80+ watts less (per machine) and getting double the PPD! This is an overall move to lesson my total number of GPU's while also using less power to get the same or better results (just like I did when I had 2000 series and then I moved to 3000 series). Yes, the fire breathing 4090's get great PPD, however i don't want that type of power draw 24/7. I won't win folding sprints, but I'm in it for the long haul and to Science the S*&t out of Cancer!

 

(I actually ordered (3) 4080's . However the wifes car ended up needing a 4090's worth of work soon, so the 4080 that I still had not received from BestBuy got canceled.) 

 

On that note, I spent today selling (2) 3060 ti's and a 3060 along with a few other things on Ebay to help recoop my costs! Plus I already have one of my computers lined up to be sold along with a 3070ti after the folding month ends to recoop the rest of my 'investments'.  

 

So that was my day. I hope you all have a great week of folding!

i plan on bender staying running but in a reduced power mode after the event as mining is no longer profitable...

Its a shame 4090 stock at MSRP is so bad as I believe 2x4090 is better value as folding seems to scale well over compute units.

That's on a 16" MBP, right? The only time I've had issues with MagSafe on my 16" M1 Max MBP is when I'm using it on my lap, otherwise it's very solid. Definitely much better than MagSafe 2 in my experience.

Wow, my RTX 2070 really seems to enjoy running next to an open window bringing in -2° air. It's currently running in the low 70°s while pulling 200W. I've got it overclocked to 1920 MHz on the core right now, and it seems to be stable. F@h is now getting around 3M PPD compared to 2.4M when at higher temps. I'm looking forward to running this during the winter. Feed it cold air and it gives me more points in return.

gotta be careful ocing with F@H it will wait till you have JUST left or JUST gone to sleep to fail and require a down clock to start again...i just leave stock or under clocked...i have learned the lesson far too many times

It's been running like this for over 24 hours now without any issues, so I feel alright leaving it for a little bit. I'll probably bring it back down to stock tomorrow, but right now it's doing fine. 

 

I usually run all of my cards at stock though.

1920Mhz is a pretty safe OC for Folding, depending on the voltage of course but it's not too crazy, 16 and 20 series cards can go over 2GHz if not power limited. If your core offset is around 120-150Mhz then it's probably not a problem. I left my 1060 OC'ed for almost a year at 2012Mhz, once you find a stable clock profile it's all good

I've gotten it to over 2GHz without crashing (running F@h), but I dialed it back a bit for stability.

Right now it's at 191 with memory at 479... 

It's been fine all day though, so it should be fine lol. It's definitely getting me more points in combination with the literal cold air intake I've got going. I'm blowing air that is below freezing directly towards that machine.

What voltage is it at?

It probably will be, if it hasn't crashed so far I'd say you've found a new Folding stable profile, particularly considering there's still plenty left on the table. 1920Mhz is great for efficiency too! 2Ghz+ needs higher voltages in my experience

I haven't even had to touch the voltage yet. I increased the power limit in order to raise the thermal limit, but so far I haven't seen it go over 968 mV. I've left the voltage at +0% the entire time I've been messing around with overclocking, and that includes when I've gotten it above 2000MHz. The highest it's hit is 2040 MHz, though that obviously wasn't for a long period of time. If this thing ends up being stable with these kinds of overclocks then I'd be more than happy to leave it like that during the winter. I won't be able to leave it drawing 200W once it warms back up outside, so in a few months I'll have to focus on getting the power consumption down.

So dead 1080 just booted into windows after about a 15-20 second black screen no input. 

I took it apart, gave it a good cleaning, wiped out the hooped in thermal paste, put it back together, left it in the boot of my car overnight in the frigid cold, gave it another cursory alcohol bath, and now it is stress testing.

 

Gonna be running the tests on each card just to make sure I am sane. Gonna put a mark on each just to avoid mixing them up.

 

Benchmark update to come soon.

Dead 1080 put up a 10800 Passmark

Live 1080 put up 10600? (Running again)

 

Now looking into potentially an x570 board that will do x8+x8 AND allow PCIE x4 SSD.

My 4080 arrived today! Still too little too late to really get me anywhere but it folds around 2x what the 3080ti would do. 16-18m ppd it has stabilized to.

My 2070 failed a WU last night (that's what I get for overclocking lol), so I'm not sure how good my points will be today. Everything else has been going strong though, and the office machine (dual RX 570s) hasn't crashed since Thursday. 

 

Edit: It also seems that my idea about keeping the Z68 quad GPU machine folding 24/7 is working. It's been running for over two days now without crashing, and the only difference is that I haven't paused F@h.

Frustrating, if it was about 1/3 to 1/2 the MSRP, it would actually be good value.

 

This is kinda what I expected though, why I was willing to get the 4090 as everything was suggesting the 4080 would be worse value.

I have a 4090 in the mail too hehehe but that's FedEx vs Canada Post..... Both from BC lol.
