I'm flipping some parts I have into a rig to sell just for fun. I have a few options. Comment and Advise. What would you do with these options?

Go to solution Solved by dizmo,

Just put in the i5, you're not going to get enough of an increase in the selling cost to make the i7 worth while, plus you'll still have the i5 left over doing nothing.

The 1070 makes the most sense, as it'd be the hardest to sell...though the 1660 would be a very close second.

I bought a case. It was a cheap case.......

I have a few boxes of unused components and the "big bin of horrors" that is full of connectors, cables, power supplies, rgb light strips, and all manner of things that are 3 pin, 4 pin, molex, sata, and almost everything in between. Including a few GPUs, RAM kits, ect.

So I am going to build something.

This is what I KNOW that I am GOING to use:

AsRock Z170 Extreme 4 Super Alloy mATX with socket 1151

oLO DDR4 2x8 Warhawk Aura Sync RGB 2666 CL 19

Aigo GT 600w 80+ Bronz Fully Modular

Aerocool Mirage 5 ARGB CPU AIR COOLER, 5 Ultra-Efficient Thermal Heat Pipes, Infinity Mirror RGB Desing, PWM 4-PIN

COUGAR MG120-G RGB Black Compact RGB Mini Tower Case with Tempered Glass Side Window (just got that at like $58)

XPG SPECTRIX S40G RGB Internal SSD 512GB PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 2280 NVMe Black 1PK

SAMSUNG 860 EVO Series 2.5" 500GB SATA III V-NAND 3-bit MLC Internal Solid State Drive

(I know that I am going to use them because they are the best of what I have laying around)

I ALREADY HAVE and can Choose From:

Asus ROG Strix RGB Light 1070 8GB (non ti)

MSI RTX 2060 6 GB Gaming (non super) DDR6

EVGA 1660 Super 6GB DDR6

i5 6600K 3.9 ghz boost

My thoughts:

The i5 6600K will be bottlenecked, but does it matter? Will someone care? Will they even know/ read the specs? Would it affect the "flip speed?" Would someone even think it's an issue. Most people don't REALLY know, they are buying RGB lights and stuff.

I COULD spend some money and get like a 7700K at MOST, but they are still kind of pricey on the used market for a "flip build" .... I'm not thinking I want to SPEND some more cash here... hmmmmmmmmmm

would you go with the 6600K and the 1070/1660 super for a more "balanced rig" ? as in - no wasted GPU power ??????

OR would you say that using the 2060 would make it more "appealing" at market, even though the CPU combination does not necessarily make sense.... hmmmmmmm???????

And then what kind of a sales price would be reasonable for combinations like these? I don't try to overprice anything build/sales wise. People do that all the time on FB Marketplace and Craigslist and it Drives me Nuts.

Anyway.... your thoughts?

EDIT: I DO ACTUALLY HAVE A 7600K AND A 6600K

So... just go with the 6600K because the 7600K would not really get me anything of value out of it?

Sure, use the 7600k. Makes more sense since you have it. Help the next person out with a little more performance.

I doubt you'd even notice the difference between a 6600k and 7600k once they're overclocked.

Sell the 7600k, put the 6600k in the system.

Well... yes. ! That makes sense TO US. However, alot of people that BUY STUFF don't know all that.

Someone can see... "ahhhhhhhhh 7600k is better than 6600k" and "2060 RTX, well that sounds like a winner"  I mean, if people REALLY knew what was "up" then they probably would not be buying a rig on FB Marketplace (I guess)

Yes. I may. But I am thinking about me here as well. Some people don't know "bottleneck" they just know fancy colors

Yeah... but if you were a buyer, maybe you would be more WILLING to 'buy now" with that "better" spec ?? he he he....

I sell stuff, including computers, as a hobby. It won't really matter which one you stick into a complete system, but it'll matter more when you're selling it alone, since the person buying the lone CPU is more likely to know performance metrics, whereas the person buying the complete PC is more likely to not.

Do you think that the storage is overkill?

I'd probably just include one, leave the other one out. If you happen to have a 1TB HDD kicking around, throw that in there instead.

If someone is interested but worried about the storage then you can "throw it in" as an added incentive to purchase it.

AHHH. Probably. I was sort of thinking that too.

After listening, I'm probably compelled to go with the 6600K and the 1070

IDK..... I got the 7600K for like $52 and I am not sure if I can flip that for more or not

I have a XPG SPECTRIX S40G RGB Internal SSD 512GB PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 2280 NVMe Black 1PK not doing anything. I thought maybe this could be a selling point that would push a buyer into the "yes" category

I don't have a 1TB SSD on hand though. Maybe I could get one, but then that would be new cash out of pocket, which was not exactly the point
