2022-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 keeps failing to install.

i been trying to install this update for the past 3 days i keep getting the same issues.

i go to download the update and it downloads but once i start installing it gets to 25 percent then skips to 100 percent and says failed

i also tried to  Run SFC & DISM, no problems was found.

also tried  the Update Trouble Shooter and no luck with that..

 

 

update: after last month dealing a whole month with this issue, now this month, i cant install 2022-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 home.

it will download and install the update, but when i restart my pc after update, it will says something went wrong with the update reverting update (something like that) i have no idea what to do other than a fresh install of windows and im not trying to do that..

Weird.  I personally don’t currently trust win11 any farther than I can throw it, and likely won’t for at least a year.  That’s just how intel integer updates seem to go. 

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

What does Event Viewer say?

Run Windows update again, and what does CBS log says (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS -- (I only care about the last couple of line, especially those with "error" on the second column... I don't need the file))

The error the OP gets a one that means the operation failed outside of known possibility.

The error code the OP gets means: Catastrophic failure

 

This is typically caused by:

  • System time is wrong, failing digital signatures validation. (Ensure the time is precisely correct, restart the system, and try again)
     
  • Security software is intervening in the update process. (Uninstalling it, restarting, should fix the problem)
     
  • Unstable internet connection, leads to corrupted download (clear WU cache and restart would fix it)
     
  • System tweak tool was used. (Read tweak tool to undo and uninstall it. Hope it restores things properly. Else: No fix)
     
  • The system had a virus or malware and modified system files at some point in time (the removal of such doesn't fix system files, so: No fix)
     
  • Registry cleaner was used. (No fix)
     
  • Pirated software was used and modified system files. (No fix)
     
  • Bad Luck - System files got corrupted at some point (faulty drive / faulty memory (remember that high-end consumer hardware is only reliable at 95-97%. Only server ones reach 99.99% thanks to a lot of error correcting and higher quality components) (No fix)
     
  • A power loss during update happened in the past and corrupted a system file. Rollback failed to recover the affected system file.  (No fix)

 

Windows 11 is based off Windows 10.

i have no idea, i still cant get it to work i been stuck.

 

i also tried to install from Microsoft Update Catalog , when i tried it says the update was not installed.

this is what i see at the bottom of cbs log when i tried to run the update downloader from windows , but i see more errors through out the whole log.

all event viewer shows is this, Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8000FFFF: 2022-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5015814).

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

More information about a problem is often better.  The second sentance seems to basically support the first but it was complicated so because it wasn’t my machine I didn’t read it.

Seems like i can never install the cumulative update, same is happening to this months aswell. I need some solution please. I tried everything but fresh i stall of windows , i really dont want to go down that road..

Looks messed up.  Refresh, then reset if that doesn’t work.  If THAT doesn’t work something is actively breaking it. Bios reflash cmos clear and clean install. I don’t know what that is so it gets the flamethrower.
