Registry cleaners are nonsense. Sorry, but cleaning the registry doesn't make your PC faster. Applications and services being executed from RUN_keys cause issues, but registry cleaners don't do this along with scrubbing old or corrupted profiles.

Doing SMART checks on a weekly basis is the #1 utility you can execute.

So my maintenance:
Regularly run windows updates, AV scans and keep drivers up to date.
Clean system of dust once every 3-6 months (my system doesn't get dusty since it is on a desk).

I haven't had many issues. No need for CC cleaner. I have had CC cleaner screw up windows installs BADLY if reg cleaner is used.

I have used this int he past to decent affect. PLEASE READ WHAT THE PROGRAM DOES!

Does an excellent job.

Windows does a pretty good job these days maintaining itself otherwise.

BTW Tweaking.com's windows repair tool is an amazing tool when windows is miffed. As long as you can get it into safe boot I have saved many insstalls with this piece of software. When I worked in computer repair I would have to reinstall windows maybe once or twice a week at most and mainly because the drive had a bunch of bad sectors and the clone didn't boot.

Be sure to @Pickles von Brine if you want me to see your reply!

I wasn't really after faster, but I'm surprised that registry cleaning is unnecessary. I've always heard that was a good thing to do to prevent errors, but from this thread that seems to not be the case.

I'll take a look at that, thanks for all the info!

I have had windows upgrades, even between versions like version 2004 to 21H1, get screwed up really bad because of registry editors. That and I have had other funky weird issues like certain programs unable to run properly or weird and strange windows problems. CC cleaner and other programs like it have really caused me a lot of headache.

Just keep in mind it is a windows repair tool used for recovering or repairing busted installs. Especially after a bad upgrade or update or damaged caused by viruses/trojans etc. It is not be ran as a "tune up" program. Though I have used it as such but on limited use. I also ran it when i suspected something was up or there was a history of issues with the system. If the install of windows was older than 2-3 years I also ran the tool.

On my own systems I have only ever ran the program once and that was after i had an upgrade go sideways.

I only reinstall Windows if I'm building a new PC or something is majorly broken (hasn't happened in a very long time).  I didn't know people did it on a schedule.

I clean dust filter whenever I feel the front mesh on my meshify case gets to an subjective amount, probably twice a year, tho I don't know for sure.

Software wise I don't really so anything, important files is automatically synced to my NAS, recycle bin gets emptied whenever I feel like it, no schedule, probably one every half a year or something. Never run ccleaner or anything, I don't download random programs and I don't feel running it has any noticeable benefit, if anything it's a risk of creating issues.

Drivers, only one I care about is GPU driver and that one I update whenever I feel like it, maybe once every half a year.
