windows 10 takes years to load…

marcuzx

my windows 10 takes 5-10 mins to load

I’m running the pc with literally the best parts that the store has to offer; 3090, 5950x, 128gb ram, etc. now the only part that’s lacking is my hdd, I’m using a hardrive… I simply didn’t feel like buying a sdd and I’m using a hdd.

is my hdd the issue? I can’t think of anything else???

if you think that the hdd is the issue then I’ll take recommendations on what upgrade to get

Yeah booting off an hdd is pretty slow, but it shouldnt be that slow. Was it like that when you first installed windows?

If the brain can process 100 questions per second, but the cabinet can only dish out 3 question pages per 4 seconds.
The brain gonna get bored waiting.

Yes, it's pretty much your HDD.
my old system is only i7-870 with 8gb of ram, it has a cheap ass SSD. it loaded it's Windows in like 15-20 seconds. 30 seconds top.
Don't ask me how long it was when it was still using HDD, I am still trying to forget the horror.

There is approximately 99% chance I edited my post

you'll notice the difference between a hard drive and SSD on even the lowest end of systems.. how you managed to click 'buy' on 128GB RAM, yet are still running on spinnign rust is beyond me...

I mean I bought all these parts when you could make quite a bit off mining so I thought the pc would pay itself off with mining raptoreum and eth but it seems unlikely now. I overpaid my 3090 and my 3080 by quite a lot.

I used a hdd that I ran vista on for years and it was fine. it’s not even a new hdd, its quite old. I’ve got a brand new hdd but didn’t feel like installing windows again. This is my mining pc which has many other gpus connected to it

Spoiler

wtf

I installed trident royal because it looks good but in reality all I needed was 32gb; I didn’t even buy a case so I never even see the memory which is kinda sad. It all happened so quickly because I got many gpus at msrp and then everyone else did and then they all crashed

I’ll try n get a free sdd from my local microcenter rofl. I don’t wanna spend anything for now. I invested over 10k in just gpus during the msrp availability like 3 months ago and oh fuck… it’s not looking good now ffs

Windows has gotten much more complex since even the Vista days. Hence much heavier to load during startup. My work laptop with a HDD takes around that time to get to a responsive and usable state.

If you're only trying to mine on the computer and want windows to boot faster, even this cheapo SSD would do wonders for the computer.

https://www.microcenter.com/product/623041/inland-professional-256gb-ssd-3d-tlc-nand-sata-30-6-gbps-25-inch-7mm-internal-solid-state-drive

IF you were wanting to play games you'd want bigger than 256gb.

Spending that much on hardware but not wanting to spend $25 on a SSD makes this seem like a massive troll post.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

I would compare this with buying a supercar, with a 2 speed lawnmover engine.

Yup it is the HDD to blame. Get an SSD, preferably a M.2 NVMe drive and image your HDD into it (if you can afford an SSD the same size or larger than your HDD.) You can leave the HDD in your machine, but only for storing data not frequently accessed.
