Hosted network supported USB adapter?

GOW2

I'm looking for any USB WiFi adapter that supports the Hosted network feature.

Can anyone help?

I have bought a few but none support it.

Can be found by cmd . NETSH WLAN show drivers

What wifi adapter you using?

I tested an old wifi adapter I have lying around since 2010 (tp link TL-WN822N v2) it supports hosted network after using windows update to install the Atheros driver.

Ensure you wifi adapter is fully recognised in device manager and installed appropriate driver should support hosted network.

What do you need it for? Ad-hoc networks are basically a dead feature, and modern replacements like Windows' hotspot feature don't need the "hosted network" capability to work.

Yes, enable the mobile hotspot and connect to that. You'll need to manually change what connection is shared on it since by default it's the direct connection that will be shared, not the vpn (would be the same with an ad-hoc network).

Once i enable the mobile hotspot windows makes a local area connection* 10. I then go to the PIA network adapter properties share and pick local area connection* 10.

The roku will connect to it but there is no internet.

Yes that should work, that's how I did it last. Make sure the tick above the adapter selection is on?

Does not work on my iPhone 12. That is why i was under the impression you need Hosted network feature for this to work.

Tried again just now and it works, different vpn but shouldn't matter. My WiFi adapter doesn't support Hosted network.

Seems the issue is the hotspot not having a DHCP server running, if it was an adapter issue you wouldn't even be able to enable hotspot or connect to it. Might come from the fiddling done up to that point and I don't really know how you'd go about troubleshooting that... maybe one of the connections has a static IP set?

frustrating. Are yours set to obtain an IP automatically?

I noticed in the MS virtual adapter it is set to use the following ip. In the IPV4 settings.

Weird. Last time I used it before the test today it was with PIA, but that was a couple of years ago so things might have changed in their client that breaks it...

I figured it out for anyone else with issues. It was the setting to allow lan traffic! of all things

Not sure what difference it makes but if you block lan traffic your device will connect to the hot spot but never work.

That was an option in the PIA VPN app.

hi there!  I must admit i kinda have no idea what i'm doing, so i  apologize to everyone in advance, but...

i have Windscribe and a laptop with Windows 11, and I'm trying to use Windscribe with a UK location so i can watch geolocked content on my Roku tv with Chromecast.  i tried the "netsh wlan show drivers" command and it says Hosted Network is NOT supported.  i also tried casting to the tv from UK Windscribe on my android phone, but that doesn't work either.

i found the option in Windscribe to allow LAN traffic. Have i understood properly that that's the only thing i need to change, and it should all work despite my laptop showing Hosted Network is not supported?  thank you for any help!
