What would you consider expensive when buying tech products?

Geekazoid

Anything more than a single paycheck, lol.

It's all relative.

I see if price/performance is correct. Sadly, that is not true for any 1440p or 4k monitor.

1440p isn't more expensive than what you're gaining over 1080p..

Most 27 inch 1080p IPS are 250-300$ for a decent brand, and 1440p is ~450-600$ for 1.778x more pixels on the screen.

1920x1080 = 2073600

2560x1440 = 3686400

3686400/2073600 = 1.777777777777778

1.777777777777778* 300 = $533 dollars for 1440p.

The price to performance isn't any different than a 1080p 27 inch monitor with an IPS/PLS screen, especially considering you can get a pb278q for under 500$ sometimes, and HP zr2740w  factory refurbs for 350$

Depends on what piece of tech, over $300 for a CPU is spendy, over $500 for a GPU, over $40 for a game. Its all relative I guess.

CPU: i9-13900k MOBO: Asus Strix Z790-E RAM: 64GB GSkill  CPU Cooler: Corsair H170i

I've gone crazy before, and regret it now that I'm pinching pennies. I'd buy whatever I wanted, but I guess I stopped after pricing out a water cooling setup or looking at SSD raids.

...anything over MSRP.

Well I don't think any retailer is allowed to sell over the MSRP. If you're finding that several stores are you should confront them about it. How much over the MSRP are we talking?

Nothing. My PC build went from 1500 dollars to 2500 dollars because I didn't like what I was building. My next build will probably be over five grand (US) because go big or go home. I hate seeing cheap builds. When someone asks for a build cheaper than $800 I ask myself why? These are our babies and our lives why cheap out? Plus it's a console (gaming wise. just a comparison) and a computer in one. Console $400 and PC $400-$600 so why would you build a $400 PC? I understand money is tight but why build something you'll regret in 2 months? That's my logic and that's how I ended up with a $2000 PC but maybe I'm just crazy.

I hear ya mate. I kinda agree. I think if you're going to build a PC you want it to last you at the VERY least, 5 years. Those $400 - $800 builds, I feel, are not usually the best value for money and not worth paying for. My budget for my build this year will easily max out pass AU$2,000. I think, though, that this is kind of a subjective thing because different people have different reasons why they need or can only spend a certain amount on a PC build.

Anything made by Apple...

'Nuff said :P

I know they used to be pretty ridiculous, but price-wise these days they're pretty competitive and fair, at least in my eyes. They may have failings in other areas that sway your decision, but you may want to have a second look at their prices.

Pretty much all AMD cards were over MSRP for the last 4 or 5 months which was made by the retailers.

Ah yes. I remember that. I think that was because of Bit Coin mining and people were buying crazy amounts of AMD GPUs. I think retailers saw an opportunity to make so much more $$$ that they thought "Hey, let's jack up the prices on all AMD GPUs that we sell". To which I would reply "Greedy much?".

For me, a product is considered expensive if I don't use it much.

For example, I consider $300 for a smartphone to be expensive because I only use them for calls, messages, news, and the occasional games when I'm waiting for something (or trying to be anti-social  :ph34r: ).

Why spend $700 for a flagship smartphone when I'd probably use 30% of its function anyway?

I don't mind spending up to $1,000 for a PC because I'm probably on it 8 hours a day, 7 days a week anyway. It's usage justifies my spending on it to get good quality parts that'll last me for at least 3 years. Meaning I'm just spending $333.33 a year for that PC before I change them.

I wouldn't be able to justify spending on an iPad (it seems to be a trend these days to have one regardless on how useful it is to you) because I'd probably use it for less than an 8 hours a week. Or when a cheaper tablet like the Asus Memopad line would suffice for me for media consumption when I'm away for a fraction of the price of an iPad.

In summary, I'd consider it's price/(usage x performance) ratio.  :)
