Going to upgrade to 1440p but wondering about Panel types

So I think I'm finally ready to make the jump to 1440p gaming since i finally got a graphics card (nvidia). I currently use a 1080p TN monitor and wondering if I should stick with TN or go with ips. I play a ton of different genre of games. I was currently trying to decide between these two monitors. I'm pretty sure they are the same other then the panel type and the refresh rate is a bit lower on the tn monitor. Also if you have a better suggestion for a 1440p monitor post it below I will check it out.

I prefer IPS panels, TN panels have terrible viewing angles but are usually a bit cheaper at the same specs. I would also look for a non-glossy finish. I have a glossy monitor and I have a window diagonal to it and if it's summer, I can easily see that window reflected in the panel. It can be annoying

There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to go with TN panel unless you're in the lowest tier of budget. Even the cheapest IPS will still be way better than TN. Considering the links you posted and prices, you would have to be insane to go with the TN one.

For super competitive stuff, TN is still likely the best since it does have the best response times and the best refresh rates. That said, if you're sticking to 1440P 165Hz, you want to avoid it since the color reproduction on them tends to be pretty bad and they aren't cheaper enough to justify how much worse they are. A good TN panel can be pretty usable, but even a good TN looks noticeably worse than a mid-tier to high end IPS panel.

 

That said, it might be a good idea to look at VA panels as well. They tend to have better black levels and be bit of a middle ground between TN and IPS. Plus, some IPS panels can have a glow to them which the VA ones tend to not.

 

All that said, you do want to more compare specific models of monitors than just go by panel type. As eluded to above, a good TN panel will look better than a bad IPS. My old Dell S2716DG, for instance, fooled more than one of my friends into thinking it was a low-mid range IPS panel, looking better than some other cheaper IPS monitors I've used. IPS and VA usually look better than TN, but you do want to look at the specific models to see which one to go with. HardwareUnboxed is a pretty good outlet for this, rtings.com is pretty good for quick checking stuff, and there are some others.

There are some pretty nice TN panels out there. They're pretty rare nowadays, especially since IPS has gotten pretty cheap and pretty fast, but they do exist.

TN is slowly going the way of the dinosaur.

 

I'd recommend checking the Hardware Unboxed youtube channel and listening to their recommendations.

 

I should add, 32" 1440p has the pixel size of 24" 1080p so that's the better option for poor eyesight. For good eyesight or sitting closer to the screen, 27" 1440p is optimal.

I finally pulled the trigger on a 1440p ips monitor and all I can say is holy S*** makes my 1080p tn look like Vaseline
