people say 3g is going away what will happen with my laptop?

It won't connect to cell towers (if you had a SIM card with an active mobile plan installed), but WiFi and Bluetooth will work fine.

So my laptop has a 3g wifi card thing so will that mean my laptop wont be connected to the internet when 3g shuts down this year?

Are you using cellular network on your laptop? If not no, if you are then yes BUT they are slowing down on shutting down 3G networks due to most security alarms using 3G. Wifi will work fine as it has nothing to do with HSPDA network.
