What on your current build or upcoming build are you considering as...wait for it......"future proof."

minimalist

I'm giving these things a 5-10yr lifespan.  For me I'm going with the following:

1) All storage - SSD's and HDD's

2) Case

3) PSU

4) Keyboard

5) Mouse

6) Speakers

7) Headset

An AIO water cooler I'm debating.  Not sure if you can even get one that lasts that long with out malfunction.

Case: NZXT H500i. Motherboard: Asus Prime Z390-A. CPU: i7 9700k OC @ 5.0GHz. GPU: EVGA 2080 FTW3 CPU Cooler: NZXT X62. Memory: G. Skill Ripjaws 32Gb 3200mhz. Storage: 1TB Samsung 840 EVO SSD /  120GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD  /  WD Caviar Black 3TB / WD Caviar Green 4TB. . PSU: Corsair AX760. Monitor: 2x Acer XB270HU. Keyboard: Corsair K70 RGB. Mouse: Corsair Glaive.

I don't think you would. Beyond 5 years would be stretching it, imo.

also if they're gaymin headsets don't expect 5 years either.

On my current build I think these things will last me about 5-10 years.

1) Case

2) PSU

3) Monitor

4)  Possibly storage but HDD's will be a thing of the past soon.

My Current Build:

Intel i5 3570K @ 4.4GHz 1.11V, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO, Asrock Z77 Extreme4, Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600MHz, Samsung 840 EVO 250GB, Asus GTX 760 DCII Overclocked, Corsair CX600M

Keyboard (I just can't stop using it... feels too good...), Case (if the next build is in a different case, this one will probably house a NAS), PSU (although I will probably replace it with something fully modular next build, for sleeving).

Speakers, mouse, and mouse mat, surprisingly. The rest is fair game. Could probably carry the PSU into the future, but it's just easier to sell it along with everything else in the rig at the same time.

Gaming headsets like corsair or razer make?  If so I would agree with that.

Pretty much all the peripherals, monitor, OS, possibly the GPU because the 6gb version is coming out soon so it will be 4k ready, SSD, watercooling, psu, case.

Keyboard.. A good keyboard can last a really long time... Cherry MX are rated for 50M clicks..

PSU, there's a PSU from EVGA with 10 year warranty..

As far as I can tell, ATX will be the standard for years to come. As such, my case is definitely future proof (Fractal Design Arc Midi R2).

Other than that, well, I've got a Core 2 Quad and DDR2 RAM.

Yeah.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X - CPU Cooler: Deepcool Castle 240EX - Motherboard: MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC

RAM: 2 x 8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro RBG 3200MHz - GPU: MSI RTX 3080 GAMING X TRIO

My case, soundcard, speakers, will probably never be replaced unless I physically break them. My SSD's will hopefully last 5+ years and I'll push my 550W power-supply for as long as I can. Even when my all in one watercooler breaks down I'll be able to keep the radiator for my next water cooling setup (good going swiftech) Diskdrives will never need to be upgraded again and the NZXT HUE is super versatile so that will probably never be replaced.

Why do you always die right after I fix you?

But i do need to replace the case and maybe add a GPU.

And my mouse/keyboard are quite crappy so that might not last for long

considering its only built for browsing the web/downloading, I'd say my whole rig will be good for years to come yet.
