MSI Recalling some MAG CORELIQUID 240R/360R AIO Coolers

GuiltySpark_

Summary

MSI has begun the process of recalling MAG CORELIQUID coolers that fall inside a certain serial number range for "sediment that can cause a blockage". Users are instructed to use a form to begin the process of having their AIO replaced.

MSI MAG CoreLiquid 240R / 360R AiO cooler recall

Quote

MSI says it began receiving complaints about the affected CoreLiquid products an unspecified length of time ahead of the recall. MSI says the sediment-induced blockage issue manifests itself with CPU idle temperatures above 60 degrees Celsius. Accordingly, this is one qualifying statistic for participating in the recall, or you can otherwise claim that you are experiencing "abnormal heat dissipation."

My thoughts

I have been posting in threads for WEEKS following this trend. So much that I began to compile a list of threads where users with these AIO's were reporting a problem. Greg Salazar posted a video a few weeks ago in his Fix or Flop Youtube series where a PC was overheating with one of these AIO's. He decided to pull the block apart to see the extensive blockages and it was pretty clear what was going on. I have some vindication finally and MSI has finally recognized the problem.

Yeah that makes sense. I don't even visit the cooling subforums on here too much, but I've already seen a few topics mentioning this series in relation to unexpectedly poor cooling performance.

It was becoming a little crazy how often I was seeing these pop up, I thought I was going crazy. Becoming "The dead MSI AIO guy" in various threads.

I did change my name recently to fall in line with what I use more commonly these days and on Discord. I probably shouldn't have waited until I was 3500 posts in but oh well.

Even just the threads/posts HERE on the LTT forums about these MSi AIO acting up. I've chimmed in on a few myself.

I am also not a fan of the design with placing the pump in the radiator. If you mounted it horizontally at the top of the chassis, it is at the highest point, there is the possibility of air bubbles getting trapped/lodged in the impeller, potentially causing premature pump failure. Mounting it vertically at the front of the chassis might be better...?

Doesn't seem to matter if sediment is clogging up the block.

Sounds like MSI did not learn from Enermax's liqtech TR4 series

Wouldn't doubt it, its the same Alpatek design. Check the video I just linked above, i'm willing to bet that is the same cooler just rebranded from Alpatek.

I do find some MSI products do get fine support, but anything that tries to be "advanced" or has complicated parts... never trust MSI with that.

Still not over. The qualifying list of S/N's is expanding.

Sad to hear, MSI hasn't changed at all, this is not the first or not the last in their response like that, not so great handling of it (but the contact person seemed good tho). Downplaying the situation and not offering what they should, really sucks.

why isnt this being talked about more? i feel bad for him he trying to help the community

in the EU, if this "advanced recall" or whatever is not supported, it might go against some consumer protection laws for a flawed product.

Although every country has different laws and ways to do things, which is why having global and similar support can be difficult but shouldn't be impossible to take better action.

ya but it like MSI is trying to cover this up and not issues a recall. at least when Asus had there motherboard problem they finally admit they messed up
