2 storage devices

AryA_65

I have a 980 pro in the gen 4 slot of my Asus b550-f and I want to buy 1TB of extra storage. If I combine the two drives, will that slow down loading times and boot times since the 1TB drive is in the gen 3 slot?

Yes and no. Yes in that if you combine them, you're only as fast as the slowest drive. No in the fact that nvme is already beyond the point of diminishing returns. You will notice little or no slowdown. Fyi, from my own tests (because i have a gen 4 and gen 3 drive and a sata ssd) sata ssd still loads games as quick as an nvme and gen 3 performs just as good as gen 4. But if you are concerned, just don't combine them. Keep them as seperate drives like i do. Use the gen 4 one for windows and the gen 3 one for games, like i do. Just a sudgestion.
