GPU serial number wiped.

SMKxx1

I was cleaning my blower style asus RTX 3090 the other day using isopropyl alcohol like an idiot. The alcohol wiped the serial number off the GPU. To add insult to injurey, I don't even have the box. Is there anyway I can find out the serial number of the GPU or is my 2 years and 7 months of warrenty gone?

having serial number on the card is actually important tho if they care about it

but tbh, don't fret about it, not like your card is gonna break just because the serial number is gone

odds are, it'll live a long life (or warranty voided since it sounds like you opened it lul)

Contact whoever made the card, they may be able to or have a way to read the serial from the BIOS of the card or some other chip on the card? Also you'll be able to get a solid answer about A. why they used so horribly impermanent ink and B. if you're boned.

Query nvidia-smi and see what it spits out. This is for Windows CMD, idk about other platforms:

nvidia-smi --format=csv --query-gpu=name,serial

For my HP RTX 2080 Ti (OEM) it returns the serial number. Not entirely sure if the serial command works with Ampere or other Turing cards. But I think it should.

Just tried with my 3080 Ti and it returns [N/A] for the serial number.

Same for my 1060 6GB.

I used Windows 10's new terminal for it.
