Cooling for 5800x and ASUS Strix 3080 in Corsair 5000D Airflow

Storm1211

I'm considering which of these would be the best solution for this upcoming build. I've gotten some conflicting feedback on whether a 5800x needs a good AIO or just a good air cooler. So I was debating 2 options:

1) Noctua NH-D15 Chromax or Scythe Fuma 2 with 3 front NF-A12x25 intake and 1 top-rear and 1 rear NF-A12x25 exhaust.

2) Arctic Liquid Freezer ii 360 top mounted rad exhaust and 3 Arctic P12 front intake

2.5) Arctic Liquid Freezer ii 360 top mounted rad exhaust and 3 NF-A12x25 front intake

Side note: I know neither of these fully utilize the 5000D fan locations, I chose it for aesthetics and future options for added fans/rads/custom loop room.

Thanks for any input!

Scythe Fuma 2 would do great on a 5800X. I'd probably swap the Noctua fans out for Arctic P12s, since Noctua fans are super expensive, but a good air cooler should keep the 5800X cool. It doesn't need water cooling like the 12900k, and you might as well get the added reliability of an air cooler if you can fit it.

I had a 5800x with a 360mm AIO and it ran cool enough to use an air cooler like a NH-D15. It idled at about 32c, gamed in the high 50/low 60s and benched in the 70s.

The AIO was an EK.

I have a 5000D with a Strix 3080 White OC. It needed an additional 3 fans in the side to keep the setup cool. Counting the 360mm AIO, 10 fans total.  I did not test the 5000d with an air cooler.

I am also not a fan of the design since hot air gets trapped below big cards like the Strix.  I bought it for a hybrid GPU since non of my cases would fit one and half the 30 series GPUs I went for were hybrids.

So you had 6 intake on front/side and 3 exhaust up top?

Any other fan between the Noctua and P12 you would recommend or just the P12?

Yes. That is how it ended up.

The P12s are some of the best value fans, and for the price of something better you could just get a lot more of them.
