My first M.2

Punk Rock Princess

I have an MSI b450 MoBo and want to get an M.2 for it. Currently have a 256gig sata for a boot drive and a 1tb sata for storage. Would like to go 2tb m.2 and of course it's me, MSI Fangirl, so I have my eyes on

MSI SPATIUM Series M.2 2280 2TB PCIe Gen4x4, NVMe 1.4 3 D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) M480

Assuming it's compatible as it's MSI but I got no clue what 2280, Gen4x4, ot NVMe 1.4 means.

Is it an okay drive?

Would I be better off using an M.2 for a boot drive since it's on the mobo and getting a 2tb sata?

Will Daren wake up from his coma before Camille marries his twin brother Roger?

Is a heat sync a good addition or is it just undercoating?

Are M.2 prices also affected by the shortage?

Is 370$ a good price for 2tb?

What company do you simp for?

These are the questions in my head.

Many thanks, fellow nerds.

Id get a gen 3 ssd, the gen 4 ssds won't be able to be used at full speed on your board, so your getting a drive that you can't use the full speed of.

370 seems high, id get a lower end drive like a 670p or simmilar, they will be just as fast for windows and games.

  • Just because it's MSI in no way means it'll be compatible.
  • M.2 is a form factor; it's simply the name of the connector. It comes in both NVME and SATA. I think you mean NVME for a boot drive?
  • Does your motherboard only have one M.2 slot? If it has 2, I'd just get 2 M.2 drives, either in SATA or NVME. Chances of you noticing the difference between them is incredibly slim.
  • Listing your full build might help with suggestions.
  • What $? There's well over 6 countries that use the $. Personally I see that as too high.
  • You don't gen 4 speeds. You probably don't even need gen 3 speeds, if we're being perfectly honest.
  • EVGA.
