With 12th-gen Core, DDR5 is finally here - But scalpers are already doing what they do best. With RAM now on the scalp list, how is a normal person supposed to upgrade? Should they?

I will just stick with my Micron Rev E kit that is capable of 3733MHz CL14

Lets just say I'll be on ddr4 for a while. I'm fine with it. It's at its cheapest right now...

The Intel Core i7 4790K runs game pretty well,and if you overclock a 2600K that one will perform well.

And all of that with DDR3.

 

Of course that newer CPUs benefit more from RAM speed,but gaming on DDR3 CPUs can be a good experience if the rest of the specs are good..

 

Anyway,my high end DDR4 kit probably beats every DDR5 kit on the market.

DDR5 has never been available here. Not out of stock, just doesn't exist anywhere. I still wouldn't be surprised if there are scalpers getting them from other countries and selling them at even higher prices

I do more video editing/CAD than gaming and only play relatively light games so I don't need the fastest ram out there. Xeon e5's gaming performance is great, 8 core 16 thread is more than enough but in a few games its max allcore boost of 3.2 ghz holds it back a bit.

these videos are getting a bit more and more sussy.

and it seems like DDR5 might have some limits in use, lower speed support with more sticks/dimms. 2 high speed vs 4 lower but more GB.

Linus worked in tech retail he should know better than this. It's almost as if there is a concept to describe a low quantity of something with a high demand and what that does to pricing... oh wait

Laughs in e8400 and 1x3 ddr2 1066 with a god awful p5q

Maybe if my p5q wasnt so god awful id be running 1300 instead of 1150 cause these rams suspiciously stop at 1150 no matter what volt i run the nb or rams so im just putting the blame on the board cause ik it is god awful oc wise compared to other p45 boards, 570fsb max is unacceptable when giga, biostar and dfi do 600+ with ease, esp when this thing is bios modded

 

Better get that damn ud3p fixed some day

Most of the results in the game's section seems like run to run variance. Especially CS:GO, and FH4 and MSFS (where the DDR4-3600 kit was 7% faster than DDR4-4400) as well.

Unless I say I am speaking from experience or can confirm my expertise, assume it is an educated guess.

Current setup: Ryzen 5 3600, MSI MPG B550, 2x8GB DDR4-3200, RX 5600 XT (+120 core, +320 Mem), 1TB WD SN550, 1TB Team MP33, 2TB Seagate Barracuda Compute, 500GB Samsung 860 Evo, Corsair 4000D Airflow, 650W 80+ Gold. Razer peripherals.

Crucial no longer manufactures this kit (it is marked as End Of Life), and while Linus did have one kit, IIRC he gave it away during one of the episodes of Intel Extreme Tech Upgrade.

The microcenter near me has been getting a steady supply in for a week as I have been to microcenter atleast 6 times returning items due to not being able to have my z690 boot into windows...right now I will say don't get an Asus z690-F as I couldn't even get into bios unless I flashback but then was having memory errors. Now have a MSI Carbon (what I wanted in the first). Even MC was having issues with their hand picked pc by Intel Asus z690-f. Look at it wrong blue screen. Anyways on my MSI mobo I was using the G.skill T5 5600mhz and couldn't boot into windows with xmp on. Ended up firing one of the sticks. So got the basic 64gig Crucial kit and haven't had any issues in 48hours. So IMO they need to work on the memory side but I have heard/seen they have been flashing the wrong XMP profiles on the memory. Who knows.

That is true but luckily I was able to swap out serval ddr5 and possible sway a few from getting it right now, because how bad would it be you pay double on ebay and one of the sticks are bad. I haven't had good luck with ebay..do I get my money yea, but wait almost 3months once due to the seller fighting back it was a pain and some out there can't afford to buy another set in the mean time so learning people's experiences are helpful. But if you want to adopt to DDR5 you need to be an enthusiast and willing to accept those challenges if they arise.
