CableMod 12VHPWR cable arrived - makes for a much neater install.

OK as I had a spare fan from another build - added an additional CPU fan to this. Serious air movement.

Update: Temps are much more in control since setting the Motherboard P1 and P2 to Intel's spec. I have now added the aluminium LGA 1700 plate in place of the latch cover that are on all LGA1700 motherboards to stop any potential IHS warping in the future. Shame they printed "Intel 12th" on it - I think I have seen other ones with no wording at all which makes more sense as this is a socket for 12th and 13th gen - that said its covered by the cooler so who cares. Idle temps in a 20c room are 28c and reach 77c running Cinebench R23 multicore with my usual fan curve.

I have managed to install the cable cover plate back on the case - originally I thought it woudln't go on with the Aorus anti-sag bracket but it does and now looks much neater. The middle Noctua fan on the NH-D15 is stepped in as far as it can go to help cool the VRMs and create some more airflow for the RAM.

2 Upgrades to this beast of a machine.

  • i9 13900ks
  • Found an identical mem kit so now running 128GB DDR4 4000 @ CL18

Going to put the i9 13900k taken from this system and put it in my other system that is currently using an i9 12900k

After much tweaking I have got the highest score on Cinebench I can. Excuse the photograph, I shut down so many services I couldn't even run services.msc to turn the clipboard service back on. Considering this cooled with a NH-D15, this is an impressive score I think.

Just for giggles I swapped the i9-13900ks for the i9-14900ks. A minor improvement. Great Cinebench score when using the motherboard default (unlimited) power limits. Temps screenshot taken using Intel power limits (253w), giving an idea of idle temps. Ran Cinebench to also show temps under multithreaded load, and you can see it's not going over 83 degrees c, with just an NH-D15 cooler.

I have gone back to the 13900ks. For whatever reason, despite trying 2 14900ks chips and adding some LLC and limiting to Intel boost power of 253w, I couldn't get it to remain stable. I suspect motherboard manufacturers will need to release a new version of their firmware to support the 14900ks but I don't have the patience so I have RMA'd both 14900ks units.

Shame because in this system I had (have again) the 13900ks, on my other home system I have a 14900k and on my office workstation at my place of work, I have the 13900k and all are rock solid. I wonder how many others will return theirs?  I am happy, I didn't need the extra couple of percent at best. Stability over speed anyday.

Final change to this system before a new build. I ended up buying a new i9-13900k and 128GB @ 3200 C16 kit as I was still having some problems running Prime95 stable. I can't remember noticing this before but now running a system that any stress test/ bench can run and run with no errors so will leave well alone now.
