PSU for Gigabyte 3080 aorus master 10gb 3.0rev

Hi

@gal-m @--SID-- @Ralf

I think I sorted out my problem with PSU shortage - 3080 black screens.

At the end - it was not the PSU problem. The Kernel power Critical error (41, 63)  was from sound driver.

Win10 comes with audio driver - from 2019. If you go to device manager and press update sound driver from  web - it comes back with info - sound driver is up to date.

Do not believe it.

Visit your motherboard web page (mine is ASUS) and downloads latest sound driver. After that unrar it and via device manager take the path that your driver update is .... whatever you placed/unrar it. Update it.

No black screens after this step=action.

Kind regards,

Okutida

Hi!

After several months of seeking/ nightmare etc.. found topic (https://linustechtips.com/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list/)  about PSU what could handle GB 3080 aorus master 3.0 rev and other power hungry cards (3090, 6900).

Problem is  that my PSU can not handle 3080. (PSU=be quiet/ straight power/ 700w/ gold+). Time to time (gaming - COD, RUST, Witcher3, Hell let Loose, Tomb Rider - rise of tomb rider) my CP screen gets black, gpu fans goes 100%, hard reset needed.

Still not shure whitch new PSU to pick up (I have 2 options)

  • Chieftec 1050W, PowerPlay Platinum Series, 80 Plus Platinum
  • Seasonic Prime Gold, 1000W, 80+ Gold (coment about this PSU made me worry, thats why I wrote)

Rest of my system:

MB - Asus Rog strix - x570-e

CPU - AMD 5600x  - stock cooler

32gb Kingston ram (2x16)

3 x120mm be quiet case fans

Can you give me advice?

p.s.

I live in EU.

buget, aprox, 250euros

GPU - Gigabyte 3080 Gaming OC, 12GB, 384-bus

Hi. I picked up Seasonic- https://www.kitguru.net/components/power-supplies/zardon/seasonic-prime-1000w-gold-psu-review/

Unfortunately - still got black screen. This time - watching youtube. WTF!!!!

Come across idea that  - should undervoltage my GPU.

Done it.

3 days without black screens.

Hopefully this will work. Will inform after 2 - 3 weeks if it works.

Why did you pick up a PSU series that has known issues with RTX 3080?

Because Seasonic is like the god itself. You cant go wrong with it even if you can.

Hi @Ralf

Hi @--SID--

Yes, I know that Seasonic counts as God level at PSU marketing.

And there (linustechtips) was the note - that only Seasonic psu what are produced before 2018 can have problems. Mine psu is brand new - 2021 year of production.

That's why I picked up Seasonic psu - 1000w.

It has been a 1week (9days) without black screen. Don't know it is because undervoltage of GPU  or I reconnected the 3 x8pins.

This evening I will set back default settings MSI afterburner, and will come back with updated info how it goes - after 7 days, lets say.

Lets keep in touch,

Okutida

That's about Focus Plus. Prime is another platform with other issues.

Where other models like Corsair RM/RMx/HX can handle it with 750w, Seasonic Prime needs a 1000.

Hi

@--SID--

@Ralf

@gal-m

Well, this situation about black screen is quite tricky.

A week ago Gigabyte replied to me and recommended to use verified driver from GB home page - 466.47

Unfortunately, yesterday (23.11.2021.)  I got black screen again. 30min of gaming Hell let loose.  😞

The only way what works fine is - under-volting the GPU via MSI - Afterburner.

Kind regards,

Okutida
