VR Headset Recomendation

BeastyB314

I would like to purchase a VR Headset, but I don't have a lot of experience in VR at all. My PC has a 6600 XT and a 9700k (overclocking), so I don't know if I want to get a wired set or a wireless one. Any suggestions?

I would like to try and stay under $300 but budget is lenient.

If you don't care about Facebook, the Quest 2 is about the best deal you can get on a headset.

If you do care about Facebook and what they're doing with ads, data collection, etc., go for a used HTC Vive. I've seen them on the used market complete for as low as about $100, though usually they're closer to $200-300. They're completely upgrade-able, so when you can upgrade the controllers to the Index controllers without any issue, or setup full body tracking. Plus, you can get the wireless adapter, which gives you the same no-wires experience the Quest has.

At $300 you don't have options really? Currently I only see VR as two options, occulus which requires Facebook, and fits in your budget requirements. The other is the Index (way outside the budget).

I wish HTC would adjust their pricing some, but it's not likely to happen.

Agreed. Bad VR is worse than no VR. I'd say the only real option is the Valve Index, and the Oculus Quest 2 comes into the mix simply because of value. Nothing else is really worth your time.

I agree looking for something used is likely going to be your best bet, unless you're okay with the Quest 2 Facebook integration requirements.

I do love my Index, but yeah, it's $$$

Be sure to QUOTE or TAG me in your reply so I see it!

Quest 2 pretty much the only option as mentioned, and it's a really good one. But maybe wait a tad since it's likely its successor will be announced in a few weeks, so probably a chance to choose between something better or a price drop on the Q2.

Oculus quest 2 would be the beat option but it’s a little over budget but you may be able to find a sale.
