1080ti to A4000 for €250?

WereCat

If I sell my EVGA 1080ti FTW3 hybrid then it only takes about €200 to €300 to upgrade to RTX A4000 16GB (not the Quadro).

This card uses the 3070ti die but at 140W so it will probably perform closer to 3070/3060ti.

I can't find any decent reviews so I have no clue how loud it gets since it's a single slot with blower fan.

Also it's cheaper than 3060ti/3070.

Any input? I'm just not sure if I can bear an obnoxiously loud card.

Anybody got a personal experience?

I doubt it'll be that loud, but it all depends on what you consider loud, where you have your PC, your case, etc etc.

I had a couple of 7970 single fan blower cards. They were loud, but barely noticeable under my desk.

Unless you're in the habit of running all your fans at 100% this will definitely be the loudest component, but GPUs usually are. However, according to the comments in two videos I found on the card it's not too loud.

As for whether you actually should upgrade, unless you need the extra 5 GB of VRAM I'd say don't. With a 140W power limit it will probably land around a 3060 Ti in performance, and a 3060 Ti is usually just 10% faster than the 1080 Ti (not including DLSS in DLSS games). Not worth €300 when you could probably find a 3070/3070 Ti for a similar price with some digging.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My case is on the ground next to the table.

Let's say the stock EVGA fan on the AIO that was constantly running at 100% RPM is obnoxious, so I changed it for Arctic P12.

Ill be interested to see how much the card could be undervolted.

I'll probably go for it though as the performance and feature jump seems to be quite large for my use case.

Need to make sure I can sell my 1080ti for high enough first.

Thanks, yeah I saw the 1st video but it's more mining related where VRAM is being pushed a lot but GPU stays cool most of the time.

The 2nd video shows how a big preformance upgrade its for my use case (3D rendering) and also gaming.

I've already had opportunity to test friends 3060ti and it was over twice as fast in Blender until he went out of VRAM, then we got the same results.

Needles to say I do it as a hobby and it's not earning me money but it's an upgrade either way for both gaming and rending + better NVENC encoder.

I'll do a bit more research but I'll probably jump for it... 😄

So I was finally able to find a decent review of this card.

Seems like it's not recommended for gaming at all as the card gets really hot and that results in thermal throttling and stutters due to sharp frequency drops to keep the temp in spec.

In workloads it seems perfectly fine.

I like that they tested with an aftermarket cooler but it will likely void the warranty (out of USA).

Seems to work really well with an aftermarket cooler though but that also increases the cost of the card.
