Seagate 1tb recognized as kingston 120 gb

Hello 👋 

my seagate 1tb is recognized as a kingston 120 gb leaving me with not much space to work with. Any tips?

What seagate? What kingston? A hard drive, usb stick,...? In what programs do you see this?

A seagate desktop hdd 1000 gb sata is recognized as Kingston 120 gb ATA

in disk manager it shows as a 120 gb C partition with no sign of the rest of the hwrddrive also in bios its recognized as Kingston 120 gb ATA

Well yeah then it's obviously not a 1tb seagate drive. Did you just buy this? You probably gotten scammed.

Where you bought that from? If it was used product, someone might have put it in the wrong package... Return if possible.

No I know for a fact that it's a 1 to seagate it says so on it and when I hook it up too my external hard drive bay it recognizes as a 980 gb drive on my laptop

Try filling it up if it's a 1 tb it'll show

No no don't worry although thanks for the concern. It used to run fine with about 1tb storage on it. I think it has to do about something with bios or drivers

 

should I Fill the harddrive? Will that fix it?

 

The full drive shows up when I hook it up to the external hard drive bay on my laptop.

when I try to update the driver it thinks it has the latest driver probably because it thinks its a kingston 120 gb

@Domotorcan you go in Disk Manager and check the drive partitions?

It actually showed up although it seems to be another drive altogether

no I don't have an ssd

 

ok so I formatted the unallocated space to drive E and now I have an partition with the lost space on it. Thanks for the help

Think you can make 2 "hard drives" out of one, and then you can name them however u like, including  "120gb kingston"... something must have gotten really messed up for this to happen tho (since op says they have no ssd...)

Thing is they said they took it out and then on the computer looked at it which to me says there has to be another boot device.
