Maybe I missed it but why don’t we get case reviews from LTT anymore?

Hi all, I’m just curious why Linus doesn’t make case reviews anymore. He mentioned something on one of the last WAN Shows about investing and conflicts of interest, but I’m not up to date and didn’t understand the connection with pc cases.

it’s just curiosity and because I loved watching his case reviews.

It's simply not algorithm worthy content, they can't really decide on an interesting title for a case review video unless there is genuinely something special about the case. For a video to get into browse features, it must have:

- A good title & thumbnail

- Good audience interaction

- Most people watching all the way through

With a case review, there simply isn't a big enough interest for case reviews on YouTube where they can bring these stats mentioned above to an acceptable amount for the algorithm to push the video so they can make money.

They've also talked about they just don't have anything to say about them anymore. They're not a topic the team finds interesting.

The way to go for case reviews is (the admittedly drier) GN. I mean if you're actually buying one, as many reviews as possible, but just for general viewing.

Case - Phanteks Evolv X | PSU - EVGA 650w Gold Rated | Mobo - ASUS Strix x570-f | CPU - AMD r9 3900x | RAM - 32GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 3200mhz @ 3600mhz | GPU - EVGA nVidia 2080s 8GB  | OS Drive - Sabrent 256GB Rocket NVMe PCI Gen 4 | Game Drive - WD 1tb NVMe Gen 3  |  Storage - 7TB formatted

There's other channels that do more in depth reviews .. Hardware Canucks, GamersNexus,  Hardware Unboxed

Gamers Nexus' Fractal Torrent case review is 25 minutes long, Linus does 10 minute videos and it's not the channel that's thorough at testing and measuring things, nor has the audience for that.

@More Spencer @Video Beagle @cacoe @mariushm

So according to all of your answers it's basically not worth it for LTT, not that they have a stake somewhere and there's conflict of interest like the impression I got first..

There are arguably great case reviewers like @mariushm & @cacoe mentioned, I usually watch Hardware Canucks' and Gamers Nexus' reviews to get an idea. It's probably objective, but I enjoyed LTT's a lot too, but I might be biased cuz I'm a case modder 😅

I mean, let's forget the algorithm right, they still make the same amount if not more money regardless, it still isn't a viable option because the only FACTUAL factors they can measure for a case is ease of build and airflow, everything else is just based off of the way it looks which I mean, everyone has different opinions, you can see that with the Intel Extreme Home Tech Upgrade series, some people go for hidden, minimalist PCs and others go for flashy white ones, it all comes down to what you prefer

If you're looking for more case review and case mod videos, JayzTwoCents does way more of that than LTT does IIRC. Personal favorite.

You're right about that, subjectivity is quite limited when it comes to cases, although I'd say some features could count towards that like integration of fan controllers, swapable panels, water cooling compatibility... etc. But hey you can see all that in the specs of a case, no need to go look for reviews. Airflow and ease of build are what could be "tested".

I don't know what you're trying to get at with this.

GamersNexus are the ones who have actually hinted at maybe partnering with a major brand to help design a case. The question then arises, could their reviews be considered objective?

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

I suppose it depends on what they're reviewing... besides no review is completely unbiased. As long as they disclose any affiliation they might have I don't really see that as a problem.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

While the audience and other arguments made here are for sure underlying reasons, you give probably the main reason for those aspects here. It gets monotonous and the specs page basically becomes the script you recite. You can totally argue that benchmark and parts videos are all the same as well, but alas we like lists and rankings. Seeing how the latest GPU performs against those that came before is more entertaining than knowing case A has 2 more HDD mounts than case B. Cases have become very similar internally as well.

I do like case reviews and unboxings. Especially just a quick gloss-over gives me a good idea of what it looks like and what you're working with.

You could likely poke at Alex on twitter or something about wanting to see them do more case mod stuff like the sleeper builds they did. I imagine lockdown stuff cooled a lot of that, but he was often the main guy on that type of thing. I doubt they'd go back to reviews since that's not an interest for them, but building weird shit is what the channel's about.

I believe it's entirely possible for someone to be an industry involved person and provide relatively unbiased opinion. But it depends entirely on the reviewer. Some are better than others.

For me where you can tell someone is respectable is when they outright before starting declare what their pottential conflict of interest maybe and inform us the viewer that they understand that it "MAY" have influence.

A Coffee reviewer I follow, James Hoffman, has developed equipment and works directly with manufacturers and his own company to create espresso machines. Yet he still reviews dozens of coffee makers on his channel, in what I believe a fairly unbiased fashion. Despite this, before starting he outright will say "i have a conflict of interest that might affect my bias"

it's those who refuse to aknowledge their own biases, or have conflict of interests they won't divulge that tend to screw over everyone else.

I know. It's not interesting enough to get a high enough CTR, you can't make a video like "THIS CASE'S AIRFLOW IS INSANE" because it's not generalised enough for people that aren't that deep into tech. Why do you think LTT's most popular videos are mostly general topics like Building a PC using Wish.com?
