What is a good way to show off HDR?

I ordered an OLED TV. I'm curious what is the best way to appreciate the HDR goodness it is capable of.

there isn't like some HDR content not done particularly well that won't give me a good appreciation of HDR?

For an OLED, what ever content u do choose that HDR compliant, aim for those with  darker scenes, rather than very bright ones. OLEDs shine with dark scenes with bright lights, things like star fields and such.

 

A very bright scene where most of the screen is bright is more suitable to show of HDR on 1000nit+ LCD displays.

Why shouldn't one get netflix to work with HDR? It literally just works.

 

The only reason why it wouldn't work is when you for some reason want to use netflix through a PC connected to the TV. But as most modern TVs have it built-in, there is absolutely no fiddling required to get it to work.

You mean like in "what to avoid"? Not that i know off. With my OLED any HDR content always looked noticeably better than SDR content.

 

Every major streaming service there is will support HDR nowadays. Netflix will even support Dolby Vision, which is a more advancet HDR technique. Everyone else at least supports the common HDR10 standard.

 

I personally think the Witcher series on Netflix looks really impressive with an HDR capable OLED as it includes many dark scenes with small highlights like torches, candles, etc.

i dont know if it's still the case, but 2-3 years ago it had to be the only monitor plugged in via displayport, enable windows hdr, for netflix to detect the hdr monitor, and then shutdown and plug the 2nd monitor in, i was watching stuff on console for a bit after i found out none of my stuff was in 4k (hdr was 1080p forced)

Yeah HDR through Windwos doesn't currently work at all afaik. I tried everything from different browsers (Edge, Chrome, Firefox) to using the Windows store app for Netflix. It just doesn't switch to playing back HDR video. That's why i said the only way it wouldn't just work is when going through a PC  

 

But if you use the integrated app in your Smart TV OS, then it will work just fine.
