When should I buy a gpu

Adopted

I know the shortage is coming to an end and prices are slowly going back to normal, but the prices are still pretty high. Should I buy a gpu know and spend an extra $100-$200, or should I wait another few months for prices to go back to normal?

just know that everyone's waiting and there's alot of pent up demand everytime prices drop, next gen will drop in 12-15months and i rather overpay for that tbh, prices will never be "normal" again

Shortage isn't coming to an end anytime soon. I promise you that. Material cost is higher and inflated prices are the new normal. With all the people that wanted to buy a 3000 series card and haven't yet they'd have to release a ton of cards and they will get bought out just as fast as they are now. Scalpers gonna scalp

Find a deal that you're ok with. Don't buy a 3060 for $800. A 3070 for $700 is fine, considering MSRP on most of them is about that much anyways now

Until demand can be reached, I see no way prices will fall.  Scalpers only exists when there are shortfalls in the marketplace. Its the old supply and demand thing. Production must ramp up to meet the demands of home users and miners. Until it does, prices will stay high.

Manufactures of the GPU components are currently unable to meet the GPU companies' demands. To overcome that, they need a fully staffed, healthy workforce and a steady flow of raw materials. Not something that will turn around quickly.

If they wait for the next generation of cards to enter production before they ramp up. We could be in a holding pattern for a long time.

I'm in the same boat, I need a GPU to finish a build and had to order a crappy 550 to hold me over.  We'll see how much I'm willing to spend after I've been living in the past for a few months.
