I have a pc with ryzen 5 5600x 8gb ram and rtx 3070 on msi mpg b550 gaming plus mobo. When I got the pc there was a severe gpu price hike so I got a gt 710 for my pc. Now that I have an rtx 3070 can I use my gt 710 along with it on my motherboards second pcie slot to boost performance.

Nope, SLI is a deprecated feature, nVidia no longer supports it and on top of that-neither of those GPUs support SLI anyways

Yea you can use both, but there no way to for it boost performance in a meaningful way in almost all uses. Even if software had perfect scaling, the 710 is so much slower than the 3070 it wouldn't make a difference.

Neither the 3070 nor the 710 support SLI

If he had SLI capable GPUs he could do it but he doesnt

He can use both in the pc, but it won't help performance. He could run 2 displays of both, or use them for cuda work. You don't need sli to use 2 gpus.

Can you use both of it? Yes

Does it boost performance? No

No, but you can use it as another display output

That’s a fair point-I had forgot about that, I was only considering SLI I’m regards to boosting performance

Although SLI boosting performance is debatable…

it used to be viable to run a second card for PhysX if you had applications that relied heavily on that, but, these days any single GPU on the market (and i'm talking the present generations, not old gpu's still in production) is more than powerful enough for it not to matter - this has been the case since at least 900 series.

Here are some things you can do with your GT 710

-Turn it into a coffee coaster
-Use it as a space heater for a really small doll house
-See how far you can throw it like a frisbee
-Ask NASA very nicely if they'll send it into orbit so you can try and spot it as it burns up on re-entry

or,
-Keep it as a spare card to test PCIE slot functionality if something goes horrifically wrong with your current GPU

Spare parts is my motto, although the clutter from random cables and cards drives my family nuts lol

You can run both

But

1) you won't see much of any boost in performance, because they won't run most tasks together, they function as separate individuals

2) iirc you can't use the same driver for both GPU, so you may have to rely on Microsoft basic driver for one of them

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Actually didn't Nvidia end driver support for the 710? Not sure you could run both in there now...

Ending driver support doesn't brick the card. It just means they wouldn't put any new work in.

But you can't have the current drivers for the 3070 (which don't support the 710) and the drivers for the 710 (which don't support the 3070) installed at the same time, right? Or am I misunderstanding how this works?
