Mora than 12 million people downloaded Office for iPad in a week

Gunzkewl

But that’s only part of the picture: Word for iPad is the No. 1 free app in 120 countries. Microsoft launched Office for iPad in 135 markets. That’s a pretty decent win percentage. Excel remains in the top 5 in 125 countries, as does PowerPoint in 126 countries. So, Office for iPad is a massive, global hit for Microsoft — and Apple, which gets a cut of the revenue.

Are people signing up for Office 365, a subscription without which they could not edit documents? Word is the seventh-biggest grossing iPad app in the United States, Excel 14th, and PowerPoint 39th. I think that’s fair to deem a commercial victory, at least in the short term.

12 million downloads in a week, that's a huge success.

Is it free?

yes to view things it is but you need an office 365 subscription to actually make and edit files with it

There's a difference between actually using it and having downloaded it because it sounded good.

With Pages, Numbers, Keynote etc free when you buy an iPad... It's pretty hard to beat.

that is the thing you still have to pay if you have an older generation ipad and i highly doubt any one will just go out and buy a new ipad because it comes with the iwork suite for free

Is that counting the people who downloaded it, realised they couldn't do anything but view files, got frustrated, throwing their iPad at the wall and then deleted it? :P

In case anyone asks, no I didn't do this. :D

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

..the hell do you do with any of these on an iPad?

not like any actual work is getting done aside from looking at all the things, which I'm pretty sure could already be done anyway.

I guess it's nice to have

Maybe if you have a laptop or desktop nowhere near you, only an iPad.

They do.

But if you do have to buy Apple's iWork suite, it's a one-off cost of each app. It doesn't cost no where near the amount Microsoft charge per year, $99.

They do? Last time I checked, I didn't see anything. Is it a full blown version, like the desktop version?

On Apple, you buy it once and updates are free forever. Also, you get to download it on an unlimited number of iDevices.

Of course it can't be exactly like the desktop version. It's more akin to Office Web App version. In fact, this application uses OneDrive to save your files. It is dependent on OneDrive to work. That's what's bad about it.
