Can't get 144hz when monitor isn't primary in Windows

fxscreamer

I've seen this issue around, but thought maybe there's a fix? I have 3 monitors

LG 27GN950 (4K 144hz)

Dell U2718Q (4K 60hz)

Wacom Cintiq Pro 24 Touch (4K 60hz... art monitor)

They run on a 3070 Ti. LG 144 uses this cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08F5B6BV8

As you can see, they're all identical resolution, two 60hz, one 144hz. My Cintiq monitor is usually the primary, but when I do that, the LG 144hz shows my mouse smoothly like it is 144, but dragging windows around is obviously 60hz. When I make the LG the primary.... the window dragging becomes GLASS smooth (like it's supposed to). I've installed the LG driver for Windows, checked Nvidia drivers for 144hz... checked Windows 144, etc (all confirmed). It seems to default to this weird "half" 60hz / 144hz when it's not primary, though I don't think this is the case in gaming when I test it in something like COD Warzone.

Anyone know a fix?

It's just Windows being Windows. If your primary is 60Hz then the window manager is going to run at 60Hz. If 144Hz is your primary then the window manager is going to run at 144Hz and your secondary is going to be paced at some bizarro frame time to stay in sync.

This is the same reason you'll get a ton of stuttering in games when you run them in borderless with something else playing on the secondary.

We know anything about Windows 11 possibly resolving this? I heard the multiscreen support is better and how it detects displays? 😛
