m.2 sata drive cannot be set as boot drive

my m.2 sata kingston is detected in the bios however i cant find in the list of boot options why is that? im trying to install windows on it so i can remove the other ssd as im testing something

Does it not come up in the list of drives to install Windows on?  Install Windows first, then it should show up in BIOS as a bootable option.

Remove all HDD/SSD except the one you want to install on.

Make sure its recognized in BIOS.

Then go trough Windows install.

Once there is a boot-manager on the disk you most likely will be able to select that in BIOS (altho guessing it will automagicly choose it).

At least thats hohw it worked on my EUFI BIOS motherboard.

 

Share specs and what you have tried etc. if you want better answers.

Why do you recommend "Remove all HDD/SSD except the one you want to install on"?

 

Windows installs just fine with multiple drives in the PC, even USB connected ones.  Is there a reason you suggest this?

Yes a very good one.

Since you can delete partitions in the windows installer if you not careful i always advice ppl to remove other media before install.

You will too, after only 1 of you customers deleted a partition by accident. 😉

Also its a good troubleshooting step. If it works with just the 1 drive and not with the rest in it, its a good indication.

 

But yes if you know what you are doing, there is absolutely no reason to remove other media.
But better safe then sorry...

 

edit: ps, i tell everyone to remove other media, not expecting anyone to be smart or dumb. 😄 (on your own risk kinda thing)
