Upgrading my RAM - Which one should I get?

So, disappointingly I had my order cancelled by Amazon as I did have on order some G.Skill Trident Z Neo 32GB 3600MHz CL16, but because it was out of stock for so long and Amazon could source anymore, they've cancelled my order 😕

So now I have 2 options,

I can get some Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 2x16GB 3600MHz CL18 (CMW32GX4M2Z3600C18) for £126.32 since I get VAT taken off and there is also a £17 voucher offer on Amazon for this https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B082DGZJ9C/

Or I can get some Crucial Ballistix 2x16GB 3600MHz CL16 (BL2K16G36C16U4BL) for £157.49 + £21.42 P&P, so £178.91 total from Overclockers https://www.overclockers.co.uk/crucial-ballistix-rgb-32gb-2x16gb-ddr4-pc4-28800c16-3600mhz-dual-channel-kit-my-20u-cr.html

Just for reference I've currently got some HyperX Predator 2x8GB 3200MHz CL16 (HX432C16PB3AK2/16)

and I've got a Ryzen 5 3600 + Gigabyte X570 AORUS Elite

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Are you currently using up all 16GB of memory?

For the most part yeah, it's mainly Watch Dogs Legion where I'll sometimes get a bit of stuttering because of hitting 16GB limit, but I do run VMs quite often too so having 32GB of RAM would be quite welcome

It's probably not worth the extra cost just for CL16 over CL18. The rule of thumb is a CAS Latency 1/2000 of rated RAM speed. So, for 3600MHz, CL18 gets you there. CL16 is just better, but probably not £50+ better.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X · Cooler: Artic Liquid Freezer II 280 · Motherboard: MSI MEG X570 Unify · RAM: G.skill Ripjaws V 2x16GB 3600MHz CL16 (2Rx8) · Graphics Card: ASUS GeForce RTX 3060 Ti TUF Gaming · Boot Drive: 500GB WD Black SN750 M.2 NVMe SSD · Game Drive: 2TB Crucial MX500 SATA SSD · PSU: Corsair White RM850x 850W 80+ Gold · Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow · Monitor: MSI Optix MAG342CQR 34” UWQHD 3440x1440 144Hz · Keyboard: Corsair K100 RGB Optical-Mechanical Gaming Keyboard (OPX Switch) · Mouse: Corsair Ironclaw RGB Wireless Gaming Mouse

Thanks for the reply, I'll go with the Corsair then, the gap in pricing was closer a couple of days ago, but I guess with prime day here, the price alone was the lowest it's been for a while for the Corsair kit, then with the £17 off promotion voucher on top just makes it even better, suppose I saved myself some money too as the G.Skill kit I did have on order was £165

At that much of a difference in price, I agree cl16 isn't worth it.

Check if you can find a kit of 3600 cl16 for similar price to the cl18 kit. If not, definitely not worth it IMO

If 3200cl16 is even cheaper, it'll likely do 3600cl18, its basically the same bin. But its not 100% - like 95% will work.

Otherwise enjoy your 32GB of ram, you will love it, despite all the people wrongly screaming 16GB is enough 🤣

Yeah, thanks haha, I'm sure I will, 16GB was enough before I upgraded from my 2500K to Ryzen 5 3600, but now I'm getting close to the limit and will give me plenty more years till I need more lol

I've checked PCPartPicker and the cheapest I could get that was CL16 was some OLOy WarHawk RGB and that is probably the worst looking RAM I've ever seen lol, everything else was similar to the Crucial kit I linked and didn't have RGB which I barely pay attention to now, but I dunno, I just gotta have it anyway 🤣
