I earned this badge for obvious reasons, and because I have this badge I feel obligated to do my role. I mean, I'm sure it's not a big deal, but I got rewarded for all of those posts - and that's rare on here - and I feel that I haven't been up to par with the "almighty badge" (for lolz we'll call it this for now), especially since both @Slick and @LinusTech have posted news recently, albeit, only 1 topic each. What do I say to this? NEIN!

 

Basically the point is that I need to start posting more newsie topics cause "almighty badge." It's not like I don't have anything to post, cause I do, but I've been insanely lazy lately. So back to the olden days of Tech News being flooded by topics from me...soon...ish...maybe...depends on how good said day is in news... You have all been warned.

You just repost news from other websites, same as any other news poster here because this forum has a news race culture, meaning nobody really writes that much as their own input or summary for that matter into any given piece of news because if they dare to do that, they will be second out the gate and their post will be locked in favour of whoever just copied and pasted with a couple of lines.

 

This is why I do not participate in the news posting properly, because it's a race against the repost lockhammer and that completely kills the content IMHO. Our Tech News section is simply a repost board by nature because of this situation where people are rewarded for being quick and not for providing quality summaries or personal opinion.

 

It's not your fault and this isn't any kind of attack, it's the culture of the forum and it's detriment to it's news section IMO.

 

I have made a suggestion towards helping to remedy this in the Forum Suggestions before anybody asks me if I have a better idea, my idea might not be the best but at least I have submitted something to back up my opinions on this issue and try to work towards some kind of solution.

I agree with you completely that a post with better content should trump a flash post, but racing to edit shouldn't be a factor, if everyone did that then whoever was second would still get their thread locked even if they were about to write and edit in a much better piece than the first post if given time.

It's a somewhat better solution than just racing and not doing any summary but yes you are right.

this is why I never post in news and rarely look. this is what I was trying to lobby for in forum suggestion box.

eh...it's just a badge...if you don't feel like posting news...don't. It's like in folding, you don't loose points for not folding in the same way you have already had a huge contribution to the forum and community, it's not going to go backwards...
