If you had RTX3080 would you sell it and buy RX 6900 XT ?

Tadziunia

Hey guys, i really wanted to get AMD card this time, but we all know that it was paper launch and untill it reached some retailers price was insanely inflated.

After new year i got my Gigabyte RTX 3080 gaming OC for 1240eur, yes it's almost 2x MSRP, but it's Europe, normal price would 850eur anyway. Nowadays 3080 sells for 2700eur no problem in retail shop.

I was wondering should i sell mine and get 6900 XT from USED market ad, i mean it's not used card but some dude has couple of them and he is selling them for 1800eur, which isn't bad, same card goes for 2500eur in retail.

So main question, should i consider selling 3080 which would sell for 1700eur atleast. Main reason, i just wanted AMD card, and AMD seem to be doing better job in games i am interested. What are your thoughts ?

I'd sell it then wait for a reasonable 6800xt to come around.

in my country there is like 1 or 2 ads with 6900 and 6800 XT for 1.7-1.8k eur, if i sold my 3080 i would be left without PC most like for end of this year 😞 i have R7 5800X and it doesn't have integrated graphics... So i am not sure

yes and if you plan to get a 5900x or a 5950x soon you can use smart access memory

sound slike you could get much closer to 2700 euro for your 3080 then. I think 6900xt is a better card. It gets higher fps anbd has higher memory doesn't it?

CPU: Ryzen 2600 GPU: RX 6800 RAM: ddr4 3000Mhz 4x8GB  MOBO: MSI B450-A PRO Display: 4k120hz with freesync premium.

Nah i won't get 2700eur on used market, there is quite a lot 3080s going for 1.7-2k eur, and Gigabyte i have isn't appealing because of bad thermal pad quality, i don't mine, but 95-105c on memory while gaming isn't normal. However it's strange gigabyte isn't the only one with bad thermal pads, MSI suprim X has even worse vram temperature, founders edition cards too. So dunno, if my card would sell it would be 1.6-1.7k at most, yeah it's profit, however i would like to trade/swap my card for AMD, but no AMD user would do that 🙂

If i solely care about raw gaming power, i would. The value proposition is amazing, with it basically neck in neck with 3090 given the right API and game engine combinations.

If i care about everything else? Ill hug that bitch to the end of this shortage, OpenCL is still hot garbage, no DLSS contender, driver stability is still a big spectacular meme, and Resizable BAR still doesnt show a big improvement at all this generation.

Sell RTX 3080 for 6900 XT?  Yeah.  That's a good deal.

Sell RTX 3090 for 6900 XT?  Hell no.

I would not do it and you are talking to someone that used nothing but ATI for years until I picked up this 2080 super for my current system.

Why did I switch? Because ATI still cannot get its driver act together and their products performance still lags behind though with these new cards it finally shows atleast some potential.

Why wouldn't AMD users do that? Is it because they don't have the same longevity concerns?

I think, for a lot of AMD users, they're in the same boat as me. I can't speak for everyone, but only me here.

I got 6800 xt because I knew I didn't need/want RTX, DLSS, CUDA cores or any of the Nvidia gimmicks. I also play at 1440p which prefers the AMD line up over Nvidia.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Why is the 5800x so hot?

Right. I haven't looked enough into DLSS's performance on far away objects, aka the objects that actually need the higher res. but otherwise Ray tracing got orders of magnitude more shilling than was justified. I don't see a lot of people being more excited about ray tracing than by resolution, frame rate or other detail improvements. I think the future is in 1000hz high res, not in mediocre res and frame rate with ever increasing detail settings. This last one is wishfull thinking.
