Will Alderlake support DDR4 memory?

Because i want to get an intel, but it doesnt actually look they're offering a product that i want (for the price I want)

Basically, unlocked multiplier, pcie4 , 8 cores/ 16 threads , ~300 euros…

So im thinking maybe better wait for Alderlake (later this year?) but then if that only supports DDR5 thats no good either, because that'll cost a house and an arm lol.

I would say it's unlikely 12th generation Intel will offer an 8 core for under $600/500 EU

But why, they have one now for 400?Is that how it goes, I thought they would be the upcoming "budget champ"?  Oof.

I mean I would get a 10700k for 300 right now but that has no pcie4, so that would be kinda pointless.

Although it may still perform better than my 3600 , but not sure its worth it?

I think it depends on how it performs. If it's as cracked up as they make it out to be, and not taking a backseat to Ryzen or even its own predecessor like 11th gen, I see no reason for competitive prices.

The i9-11900k is around $600 USD. I expect the 12th gen to be similar.

Ok, yeah it could be...

But it wont have DDR4 support or is cross gen memory a thing intel does?  I think AMD used to do that, long ago lol (ddr2/ddr3)

It's hard to say

So far Intel did support two generation of RAM in the transition

Some lga775 motherboard supports both ddr2 and ddr3, I own one of them

Skylake 100 series board have ddr3L ones and DDR4 board, same goes for laptops

But it's hard to say if Intel will do the same thing again

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

That probably makes it cost even more tbh

*Vader Noooooooo!!!!!!*

Eh, I can probably get a 11700 for ~300 when 12th gen releases though - just like i could get a 10700k now.

Though you may learn a lesson from the past

Although skylake supported ddr3L, it was widely frowned upon because the higher voltages were warned by Intel that it would degrade the imc sooner

Ddr5 have lower voltages than ddr4 as well, so there's this little tid bit
