Can R3 3200G work on an B450 board without BIOS update?

Hi, i'll build entry-level APU system for my family as their laptop is probably death.

I don't understand that much about AMDs as i don't used one before.

I wonder could an R3 3200G work without BIOS update on an B450 board.

Thanks in advance.

Afaik only B450 MAX boards come with compatible BIOS. You wll need at least version F4. (That might just be for Gigabyte tho)

Some stores will do it for you if you ask nicely before purchase. 😉

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

The easiest way to figure that out would be to go on the manufacturer website, to your motherboard model, and look in the list of supported processors and find which bios version was the first that supports 3200g.

A new motherboard you'll buy in stores will not be years old, most likely it will be 3-6 months old at most, as nobody stocks thousands of units of a particular motherboard. So, if the support for 3200g is implemented in a bios from 1 year ago or something like that, there's super high probability the motherboard will come with a bios that supports the CPU from the start.

Another option you have is to buy a motherboard that has BIOS Flashback feature, which means you can update the bios even without a CPU installed in the motherboard.

This way, even if the motherboard comes with an old BIOS version, you can simply download the latest bios, put it on a usb stick, insert the usb stick in a usb slot on the motherboard and press a button to have the bios updated.

3200g is Zen+ generation, (same cores as 2600 , 2700x etc ) so if the motherboard supports those, the 3200g should also be supported.

It depends, some boards do work out of the box, like any b450 max msi board. Though instead of worrying about that you can just get a motherboard that supports flashing the bios without a cpu/memory/gpu.

Does MSI B450M A-Pro comes with support?

Just checked, and yes it supports. I think it's safe to get this motherboard then.

If it supports it, you're good to go!

It should mention if you need to update the BIOS first as well.

(But i dont think you need to do that for Zen+.)
