Need help to receive SMS to original cellphone while already overseas

Hi, this is very important to me. Even if you do not know the answer, if you're familiar with this subject, maybe you can parse the info online.

 

My phone is unlocked. I have a sim card with a home provider that cannot reach me in the foreign country I'm at.

I need to receive SMS to my phone number I had while in my home country.

 

Are call/service cards old people use to make international phone calls able to receive SMS to the number I have on my sim?

What other options are available?

Call your original provider and have them enable it, fee of course. 

 

Mail the Sim to home country and have someone relay to you.

 

They might be able to setup sms to go to email too.  

 

In the future, when traveling to foreign countries, always check ahead for communications compatibility.  If they don't have a network in the country, there is nothing they can do.

Only options i see are to activate international roaming if the sim is with you or ask someone to put your sim in their phone back home and send you the info via email or another way.

Enable international roaming, for whatever the service provider charges. I think that's about it. That's why WhatsApp and other similar apps are so popular.

I've always been able to receive text messages while roaming, even 20 years ago. If you're not able to you should probably check why with your provider.
