So my eight 4tb wd red stripped raid setup running 1000Mb/s 32tb total, is plotting 30plots in 24 hours plotting on the raid HDDs. 3.3gb ram per plot. No ssd. Leaving 2 cores available for eth mining in the background.

How does sound to others?

That's pretty decent actually. More than I get per day with a 2TB Inland and 400GB P3700.

I actually really like this solution.

The problem is is it’s not consistently fast and I can’t figure out why. Some days it kills it other days it crawls

Where do you get reasonably priced HDDs in EU?

Chia is doing the same to HDDs than ETH did to GPUs, so... if you didn't buy them last week it's going to become difficult, most of the large HDDs in my local market have vanished in the last few days.

On another note, 250 plots now, but obviously stagnating ETW given the network size increase, I only gain a day or 2 in ETW per day while doing 30ish plots/day. 39% complete...

I will be there with ya soon. Building two threadripper systems now. I would have had one going already but the board had components missing off the board rolling around in the bag. 🔨🔨

Ya the hdd issue is going to be bad soon. Still able to order 10s pretty easily.

I'm not going to buy stuff unless I find a block with what I already have and can use it to fund the purchase. But if I do I'll buy more storage, which hopefully helps finding a 2nd one, and with a bit of luck TR5000 is out by then and I can upgrade my 7 year old main rig...

just over 200 plots in, and i got my second block award! 😄

Knipsel.PNG.4ae5007dccbeb99de675a1542e79e71a.PNG

with this, i am now very confident that the estimated time to win is just total BS. been plotting less than a month.

still got more than 90TB left to fill up aswell.

Estimated is estimated, can be half that or twice that, or more. And probably assumes constant size, not growing while pooling.

Since you got farming time a month ago when requirements were much lower that probably counted more towards your chances than now.

I won my first one at 70-80 plots. After farming/plotting for only two weeks. Now over 100 and hoping for another soon.

We are investing using other crypto we have had a long time. We bought into crypto when it was cheap 10 years ago so we have large profits to reinvest. Otherwise this would not be happening.

I'm now up to roughly 8 plots per day. I was stuck with only being able to do one at a time on my 1TB NVMe SSD since it was still half full with other data. I got that all backed up now and for the next little while I'll be dedicating it to Chia plotting. I'll unfortunately have to shut the system down in the near future (maybe a couple weeks, not sure yet) in order to replace my aging SSD.

Little off topic, but I really love the Crucial M500 that's in my main rig. I pulled it from a recycling pile 3 years ago and it was still fully functional, and since then it's been in use in whatever my main computer has been. It's starting to drop health though according to S.M.A.R.T. reports, so I'll finally swap over to my WD SN550 as my boot drive.

Don't think so, just did the plots very quickly so many plots but little farming time... or he's just trolling lol

I have a 1TB one in the 3rd machine, it's been fine in general but it's having a hard time for plotting compared to NVMe 😄

Did 33 plots yesterday, did a little more swar manager tweaking today so will see if it improves but I think I'm pretty close to maxed now...

This M500 is from 2013 or so, so it's time for me to retire it. I can't complain about it though - I got it for free and have run it nearly 24/7 for 3 years, so that's not too bad. The performance is still perfect, it's just losing health.

So I've stopped plotting, and at this rate I don't see a reason to continue right now. Anyone else still going?

I am still going. I have won a total of 4 chia and am waiting on pools to open. Still at it but the issue is finishing my threadripper system. Parts are hard to get in good working order.  Should be done and running today. Should be able to fill out my remaining 30 10tb drives in a few weeks.

I am seeing many with lots more plots than me not winning anything but I check all my plots weekly to ensure they are properly farming, you

do this in the command line and it takes time but I have found several times they were not farming when the node said they were 😉

i'm still goign aswell. i have a total of 60TB plotted npw and i want to fill up the rest untill atleast 100TB.

once pools become a thing i'll definitely join one aswell, tough the fact that that means re-plotting everything is kinda crap.

There is a pool open now but it’s sketchy as hell. I believe it was honey. It uses your main net plots.

on a somewhat related note: my GUI keeps freezing for some reason, eventough when i check in command line all plots are running/farming as expected. It's really only the GUI that shits the bed.

what could be causing this? i really prefer the GUI to create my plots, but i'm forced to use the command line almost all the time.

GUI works fine here, there was something I did and mentioned in an earlier post that caused it to mess up but don't even remember what it was since it hasn't crashed once since. I only have it running on my farmer.

You're not using swar chia plot manager to plot? You should, much better than both the GUI and manually messing with the command line. Been doing 30% more plots per day since they're properly managed automatically.

I have noticed all instability seems to be when plotting for me. If I push my amd systems to far they crash. My intel systems seem to lock up but not crash. This seems to be related to the drive cash getting full. I am running the latest version I think.
