Asus already did the phone + tablet with the PadFone.

The TV/Desktop you can already do.It won't change the UI,but it's possible.

The most interesting thing was the laptop, but hell that was ugly.

This may be the future, but the future is not now. No matter what kind of mobile hardware this would be running it would be incapable of doing any of the things I use my desktop for (3D CAD, Photoshop, Premiere Pro and occasional gaming). Saying that mobile hardware is equally as powerful as desktop PC's is just straight up stupid.

I wouldn't get anything like this. It'd probably end up sucking at all tasks. Even if it made a decent phone it'd still be horrible for a desktop replacement.
With current technology nothing with a small form factor can touch full sized, dedicated devices.

I use my phone to message and occasionally some googling and checking up on my funds, because it's a phone, and just so much worse to use than a computer.
Tablets I very rarely use, if someone has one around I'll play a few games on it, but otherwise I wouldn't buy one.
If I wanted something portable I'd get a small ultrabook like an 11" macbook air or something, it's far more useful than a tablet.
This kinda thing is where the rubbish about the end of PCs comes from. Nothing comes close to a proper computer for anything, even casual browsing is so much faster and easier on a PC.

Also after watching the rest of the vid it seems even more pointless. He carries around a tablet and laptop dock with him... both of which are non-functioning on their own. Yeah that's practical...

Yeah that part bothered me as well. I am pretty sure one of Asus' tablets had an i5 in the dock though, and it could change from Android to Windows when it was docked. Something like that would work well.

Damn, that must have taken a ton of engineering if you plug it in and it swaps what processor it is using. ASUS seems to be really good at stuff like that though, I don't think these guys could pull it off.

Plus that isn't really what this idea is, the docks for this seem to be just bigger screens (which a phone couldn't drive) and you'd probably have an extra battery in them.

Really I don't think things like this will ever be the future. Years ago people thought we'd have all sorts of tech built into us or whatever by now because the size of computers kept shrinking and they were getting more powerful. Too bad everything keeps getting harder to run, and always will.

They had a Laptop that ran Windows, but the screen portion could be pulled off and used as a tablet, and which could switch between Windows and Android pretty much instantly whenever you wanted. But the PadPhone was just Android; the tablet portion had a large extra battery and some I/O, and they also sold a keyboard dock with even more battery and I/O, but I don't think any of the components outside the phone actually had processing power and I'm pretty certain it never ran Windows.

I think this is not a bad idea. It is not for most of us though, but there are plenty of people who only use their desktop for Word and Email, so for them the power of a cellphone would be enough. for us hard and software geeks it of course isn't, a phone just doesn't have enought power, but it isn't meant for us.

Not a fan.

Your phone won't be able to power AAA games, and even if it could it would likely overheat. Let alone other intensive programs.

What benefits does it have being plugged into a TV? Not many. I'd imagine this TV would cost more than others because of that functionality.

I get why they're trying to do it, but honestly I don't have a huge issue owning a lot of different devices. As they stated, they all serve a different purpose and do so well because that's what they're designed to do.

A jack of all trades is a master of none.

Yeah I don't think it's that revolutionary, I'll stick with a phone, a convertible laptop and a desktop.

I think it's a good idea, but the primary use of a phone should be to take calls, this kind of complicates that aspect of it... but in saying that I don't think traditional cell phone calls will be around for much longer and things like VOIP will dominate.

So who knows? But still not a revolutionary idea.

Found it:

Asus Transformer AiO

The tablet has a Tegra 3 in it, and the dock has an i7-3770 and Nvidia GT 730M. Very impressive.

Well it's just a concept. Phone to tablet would probably use the same SoC, just a bigger battery and screen. The laptop and desktop could have extra hardware though (in theory). I think Asus' concept is much better though. Phone that slots into a tablet, which can then slot into a keyboard dock. Makes more sense than putting the phone into the laptop directly.

I actually like this idea. Being a college student, this kind of thing could be very useful. If an Ubuntu phone cone out that can run a full desktop is with something like libre office im sold. Since all the power would be coming from the phone itself that means the whole system can be very light weight. It could be a great alternative to something like the surface pro.

Sadly it wouldn't really be any good for anything other then light productive and mobile gaming there just isn't enough power that you can fit in a phone and make it so that it has good battery life and has a nice screen and good cpu that will fit in the thermal limits. If there were something like a phone mobile i5 that would be amazing if they could make the chip use super low power but when docked use as much as it wants. The concept sounds really great and a device like this would be really nice but there just isn't the tech yet that would make this a desktop or even laptop replacement it would basically be a really poorly spec'd laptop running Ubuntu and if it was a higher power cpu the phone idea would have piss poor battery life. In till we have super phones that can be spec'd close to ultrabooks this isn't taking over.

Pro's:

That nice connector interface with the spring contacts, beat USB.

Same user interface for those who hate change or different interfaces.

One bill for data, no double data plans (cell phone and interent)

Con's

Will be underpowered for actual computer use or at least for some users.

Requires having the same brand for all those different "form factors".

Those other "form factors" are pretty much dead without the phone, quite wasteful.

You are tied to the phone, if it goes dead you're pretty much dead communication-wise and entertainment.

Probably not for most people here but I could see some people use this, not great but not bad either. Sure other companies have done this or proposed it but as usual its the first to market and first to "market it" correctly that will get some sales, don't think any of the previous companies have really marketed it properly, as in it should be in store fronts (malls, strip malls, etc.) for more lay people.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.
