Crittercism, a service that monitors app usage on over a billion Android and iOS devices, reports that apps on Ice Cream Sandwich, JellyBean, and KitKat combined crash only 0.7% of the time, compared to iOS 7.1's despicable 1.6%. Android's least stable version was Gingerbread with apps crashing 1.7% of the time. By comparison, apps on iOS 6 crashed 2.5% of the time.

I bet if a poll was conducted on what people thought was the more stable OS, the results would be different.

EDIT: I'm not sure if a proportion of crashing apps is indicative of OS stability or just app stability, but this is still an interesting metric.

Very interesting.

I would figure it was the other way around if I'm honest...

So is there any reason for people to still use IOS at all? I mean really Android seems to be suprior in every way....

Agreed. iOS does has have its pros, like full backup and restore right down to the last icon placement on your homescreen, app ops, but overall android is just so much nicer. Such customizeability. Can't think of much else right now. Feel free to add to this, anyone.

Interestingly if we take into consideration that IOS is only on apple approved hardware that can handle it yet Android is often on really cheap nasty tablets with next to no system resources, it really makes this statistic so much more significant.

Now I didn't really read up on this but isn't this only app crashes and has basically(/possibly) nothing to do with the actual OS?

Sure I've had a few crashes with my 4s but it's FAR from as bad as my Android experiences, worth mentioning though, I'm still on IOS 6, will never upgrade..

It doesn't really reflect on the OS for stability as such, but it does reflect on the overall ability for a stable app to be implemented into said OS.  Meaning according to crittisism it is easier to code a stable app for android than it is for IOS.

EDIT: hence my comment earlier about the hardware, because there is so much variance in hardware on android than there is with apple so it seems the statistics are reverse of what would be expected.

I can and have easily backed up my S4... (although it wasn't a simiplistic process)

Actually it does seem so, doesn't it?

Actually integration with iTunes might be one thing, or just being an Apple fan.

My Nexus 4 has so many random reboots that I think it accounts for 0.6% of those crashes.

Clear out your RAM often. That's what I do. If you wanna take the lazy road out, you could always download and install Greenify. Luckily it doesn't require root anymore.

Do you ever turn it off? I have found with a few phones that sometimes leaving them on permanently causes issues.

Security unfortunately.

And while that's true it is not due to poor code or holes in os software but one of the many trades off that would also occur if apple were to make IOS more adaptable, not closed and had the same market share.  A bit like the OP, IOS is not more secure in the same way that it is not less stable, it the end use and modafiability that determines security.

From my personal experience my iPad mini is far more stable than my Galaxy Note 3 is. But I still prefer the Note 3.

Security unfortunately.

Then why not Windows Phone or Blackberry if all the concern is security. Security is one of those subjects that gets thrown around but it's never that big of an issue.

I think the real reasons why people still prefer iOS are:

1) Developers will always support iPhone first since that's easier then supporting a billion different Android phones.

2) iOS is very limiting but the experience is tight. If you don't care about costumization and flexibility, iPhone is great.

3) iPhone you buy this year will not be utter thrash next year or even the next 2 years.

It won't be biased, the figures come from all apps across 1 billion users.  the only real variance will come from the fact that android has over 80% market share which will mean the results for android will more accurate than IOS, however the discrepancy is still small enough to be statistically of no consequence.

The report also confirms that resource intensive programs like games crashed the most while e-commerce crashed the least.

Mostly ill use something like WakeLock Detector to try and figure out what it is that is spinning out of control. Its just annoying that at least 80% of the time i have a problem its Google Now, something you would think wouldnt have issues on a Nexus4.

How did you back it up? You transferred the files you wanted to a secondary device (PC?) then reinstalled?
