Alright so I'm curious to see in a poll how the community feels about this.

As far as I'm aware, Oculus is going to remain the same just get money from Facebook. Hopefully.

I really really really hope that they don't intergrate Facebook in to Oculus! Social media needs to die in a fire

i wanted Oculus to be the next Valve

i havnt seen any company like Valve with integrity

if they hadnt sold out they would have eventually grown into a market leader

but it seemed Palmer coudnt take the risk for some mega company to beat them to the race

personally i HATE facebook and i dont want to give them a cent of my money

As long as facebook stays out of it and lets oculous do thier  own thing, i think it'll be great for both companys. oculous will be able to progress faster with facebook's funding, and facebook now owns the biggest VR company yet, which is more than microsoft can say (who owns 2 of the most major gaming platforms ever: xbox and pc)

as soon as facebook starts trying to integrate little social media things into the rift though, or starts influencing them, its gonna be rough for VR as a whole.

I honestly don't know how to feel about it yet. On one hand, I am thoroughly not happy that it was Facebook of all companies that bought them but then they could provide the necessary capital to fund further expansion and research. We will just have to hold tight and see what happens.

Lol @ kneejerk reactions

They've seriously done nothing wrong, and being acquired by Facebook will hardly mean anything. If you are really that butthurt, just wait for Sony, Valve, Razer etc. to come up with their VR gear.

Well there's a much bigger picture many are not seeing.

Sure Cliffy B can do what he wants with his Oculus Rift.

BUT!

It really will start a new wave of Kick Starter backer requirements or fine print for backers to these type of items. Backers will now probably not back such items unless there is legalize that it cannot be sold to a larger company and it must remain open source. Future Kick Starter (and other such sites) project leaders will be put under the microscope with their listing and possibly fail if they do not list out that they will remain open source and not sell out (yes Cliffy sold out no matter how you angle it).

Cliffy B and other A.H. Project submitters 1 vs Kick Starter Backers 0

Cliffy B .. well FaceBook now still do not realize how much the Open Source angle would of gained them market share and tech advances for pretty much nothing, now it will cost them every step of the way. Sure they have money but the ideas can't always be bought with money, enter a new project to rival this in a short while with stricter limits on it remaining Open Source and out of big corp. hands.

I do think in the future such Kick Starter projects might make initial contributors actual company owners (you know stocks and that stuff) if only in the profit sharing, or should.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.
