As much as I love Abbath, Demonaz was always my favorite member of Immortal.

I really loved his solo album more than Abbath's.
 

Honestly, newer Immortal sounds like a heavier black metal version of his solo work.  I don't hate what Abbath is doing, but I will take Demonaz's stuff over his.  Demonaz's vocals > Abbath's.  And, Demonaz's guitar tone is so much better for black metal, and he only likes using super clean Abbath style tone on viking metal where it fits.  This new Immortal album is so much heavier than most of the stuff with Abbath and I love it!

Yeah, it was released yesterday, and I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive. 

Everyone and their mother seems to have received their copy of the album. 

 

While I do really like what I've heard from the new album (obviously enough to buy the damn thing), I do also find it kinda over-produced. 

Personal preference and all, but I do tend to like my black metal to be more necro. 

But that's a common complaint I have about most albums produced by Peter Tägtgren. 

 

In regards to vocals I would say it depends on which era we're talking about. 

As of right now, then I would agree that Demonaz does have better vocals than Abbath (at least for black metal), but Demonaz in the early days is hard sell for me. 

The more croaking style of black metal vocals can be done well, but early Demonaz is not an example of that.
